Re: [MlMt] white numbers in menu bar counter
So far 5957 runs smoothly for me, but I did want to comment on a related side issue. I tried launching MailMate from a terminal (iTerm), the same way Bill did below. I kept getting a popup that said I hadn’t granted access to Contacts for MailMate. The popup even offered to open System Preferences for me. But I had, in fact, granted that access. If I launched MailMate from the Finder, it worked fine with no popup. How odd. It turns out that the popup from mac OS is misleading. If you’re launching MailMate from inside iTerm, then *iTerm* must be granted access to Contacts. This is a bug introduced while fixing some other issues with the colored counters (menu bar and dock icon) “caused” by macOS updates. I've fixed it and it should be more robust going forward since I use less custom code to do it. This is also why the colored background is gone. I'm now using a standard Apple component for the number and then I add the colored circle. This should ensure the counts have the same color as the other menu bar items (I believe this color depends on both light/dark mode and the background image used). Recent test releases have been somewhat crashy because of a lot of low level improvements/rewrites/fixes which has revealed other bugs which used to be silently “ignored” (which is a bad thing). These bugs would crash MailMate instead making them much more likely to be fixed :) The latest upload appears to be stable for me, but I don't quite dare to make it a test release yet. Re: [MlMt] white numbers in menu bar counter
So, John since you’re up to date and all… Where are the MM settings for background color and foreground color viewed? Is it a .plist settings file somewhere or how can they be inspected? Somehow I was able to keep the “default” settings in place through various iterations/builds where other to this thread here have magically had them change without apparent intervention from one Test Build to another. Why did it happen? Seems like it must have auto-configured itself or otherwise an Apple OS setting somehow intervened when set outside of MM. Pushing this up to Benny, since I and others have an interest in these “hidden” goodies. Respectfully, Henry Seiden - - Techworks Pro Co.
