these could be the system tables of the your datastore...the only users
tables that'll appear in the tables section will be those with have spatial
fields (this is what i remember from my last work with sql) ...

Service is the named SQL Server instance
DataStore is the name of the database

I am using SQL 2008 Express.

I have tried what you suggested but still get the same error when clicking
Test Connection.

If I click on the little box at the end of the DataStore row I get a
different error:

The remote server returned an error: (559) MgFdoException

Any ideas?

This works!
But, when I look at the data none of my tables are there?
All I see in the list of tables is:

MSreplication_options
spt_fallback_db
spt_fallback_dev
spt_fallback_usg
spt_monitor
spt_values

I don't know what these are. Any ideas?

What version of which provider are you using?  The SQL spatial provider has a
