RE: MI Problem discovered w/Bounds Clause
Do you know if the object variables also unbounded as well? It could explain some of the problems with object processing that I have been having with finding coincident points. Could also be the cause of the GPFs I've been getting with merging using projected data into a variable. RE: MI : How do I create a projection of 1" = 100' for my base maps
1. To get a scaled print- In layout view, double click the frame you wish to scale. In the lower right corner of the dialogue box is "Scale on paper 1" = _" fill in the blank. This will change the size of the frame and you sometimes have to go back to the map window and zoom in or out to get the area displayed in layout correct. TIP- in layout select the frame and go to Options> Region style ( or use the tool bar) and select N for the border and N for Fill, now you can see your paper and move the borderless frame around so that aligning the frame border with the paper border is not an issue, the margins in page set up will act as a border. If you want a border, create another frame with the frame tool, select N for fill of that one too, but keep the border. Want a title block? Create a table for it, open that table in a new map window, draw your title block and fill in the text, in layout draw another frame and put the Title block map in it, again, select N for the border of that frame. 2. GeoCoding Points - Open whatever table you have that contains the points as a mapinfo table (just hit the open table tool, or go to File). To test this, I picked a few known lat/long from my map by setting the status bar to read "cursor location" from the Options menu > Preferences (lower left in the dialogue box), created an Excel spreadsheet with a RowID, a string (last names), Lats, and Longs. The Lat/longs must be in Decimal degrees, not Degrees, Mins and Secs. There is MBX tool to convert called "DMS converter" that will convert entire columns to decimal degrees. If your gathering points w/ GPS set it to record in decimals. Now go to Table Menu > Create Points. A dialogue box will ask you to associate the column with Longs to X axis and Lats to Y axis, select a symbol and there ya go. 3. I'm not sure what you mean by realistic streets and buildings, but you can create your own symbols with Symbols.MBX. Realistic? - I don't think so. Maybe you could draw / take building perimeter from a CAD file and import it as a DXF and register the extants w/ lat long (seems time intensive to me). I have actually produced site plans with nothing but Mapinfo, but it's easier in a CAD program. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Richard Takacs Sent: Thursday, November 18, 1999 10:16 AM To: 'Mapinfo - L Questions' Subject: MI : How do I create a projection of 1" = 100' for my base maps Importance: High Need to use this format for our base for everyday construction. MI SUM Boundary Select
I received quite a few answers to my Boundary Select Problem. A few mentioned that I'd better make sure both layers were selectable. They were, but one was "greyed out" as I had also made it editable. I don't know whether that helped or hindered the process. My guess is no. Another few mentioned that perhaps they were actually selected but did not appear so due to MapInfo's neat trick of unhighlighting (if there is such a word) a point when it is double-selected. Nope. I read about that in the archives so I knew to check the browser and selection tables. More still, gave good advice on the steps necessary to complete it by SQL. Still no go. Now for the difficult, somewhat embarrassing part. The polygons that I was using were not in fact polygons. They were lines that were drawn in a closed polygon-like shape, but since they were not created as polygons, they did not act like polygons. Oh the humility. Once I changed them to regions all went well. By the way, I used the SQL method in the end. I know it probably did take a little longer, but there is just something about SQL that gives a better sense of being in control. Thanks to Jason McMahon, Doug Pease, Brandi Scaramella, Jacques Paris, Chris Perry, Tom Brockenbrough, Jennifer Greene, Bob Young, Jacqueline Sloggett, Matt Wilkie and the mysterious "Zoning Administrator". RE: MI sizing map windows for easy viewing
Hi Jory There is actually a pretty simple trick to doing this: There are a number of steps but this works well: 1) Open both a Mapper and Layout window 2) In the layout window create a frame to contain the map. Size the frame to whatever you want. 3) Double-click the frame and uncheck the "Fill frame with contents" option. You now have a pretty ugly frame containing a map with the same size ratio as your Mapper. 5) Make sure the frame is still selected and that the layout window is positioned so that you can see one corner of the frame when you switch back to the map window. 6) Switch to the Mapper window and resize. You will see the area containing the map in the frame in the layout window resize as well. Continue until you have the size ratio matched up closely. 7) Go back to the layout window, double click the frame and check the "Fill frame with contents" option. You now have a mapper window and frame with roughly the same size ratio This not the most accurate system in the world, but it is quick and works quite well. The inaccuracy you will get is usually not enough to worry about. While I agree with the responses to your question (that an SQL is the preferred method), it didn't answer your question, and may actually take longer than the boundary select tool. The only thing I found different than what you wrote, is that BOTH layers must be selectable (from MI help files > "Searching For Objects Within A Region"). I am trying to do a Boundary Select. I have a workspace with many tables but for now I am just interested in two. Layer A has points. Layer B has polygons. I am trying to pick the points in Layer A that lie within the polygons of Layer B. I know this is absolutely simple, but every time I try, there are no points selected. I can see in my map that there are points that lie within these regions. I have tried moving layers A and B up to the first and second positions from the top in the Map Layer Window, but this has not helped. I make Layer A selectable. I choose the Boundary Select Tool. I click within the region of interest in the Map Window. Nothing. I have tried moving the layers around and different combinations of selectable layers. Nothing. Re: MI Re:Dialog Remove
David, The dialog remove problem I had occurred when my dialog box didn't have an OKButton, which automatically dismisses the dialog, but rather a series of buttons that represented choices the user could make. The handler for each of these buttons had a dialog remove statement in it. However, the dialog was not graphically removed until I changed the structure of the program as follows:- -Sub main calls dialog box procedure, -button handlers contain dialog remove statement and set a variable indicating which button was selected, -Sub main then evaluates variable with 'Do Case' and call another sub procedure which brings up a different dialog box This worked for me although the easiest way to dismiss your dialog is with the OKButton if you can. Hope this helps. Hi Keith, I am not quite sure what you mean by "not through DBMS", I assume you mean not using the Access security features to ensure the table is read only. You probably know this but you can open an Access table as read only using MapInfo where you tick the read only bit on the dialog. Looking at the tab file created, the metadata definition contains the lines:- "\DATALINK\MapReadOnly" = "TRUE" "\DATALINK\DataReadOnly" = "TRUE" I haven't tried it, but there must be a way to include this in the string used in the mapbasic server_connect or Server_Execute statements?
