Re:MI Mid/mif conversion

1999-11-25 Thread Kurt Ackermann

Natalie, there is a set of batch tools (appropriately called BatchTools.zip)
you can download from the list's collection of shareware/freeware, the url
is: http://www.directionsmag.com/mapinfo-l/IndexFiles.htm
It includes utilities for both import and export of batches of MIFs, as well
as DXFs and some other goodies.
Hope that's what you need.

RE: MI Looking for European city points

1999-11-25 Thread Warren Vick, Europa Technologies Ltd.

Hello John,

No place size indicators at all in DCW and VMap0 (unless you count the fact
that larger places are spelt in capitals). The other problem with DCW data
is that there are no accented characters which is quite a problem for
Europe.

We have a European gazetteer in our Map Elements product family with over
73,000 graded places - cost $845. This is just a point gazetteer - if you
need reference mapping instead, take a look at the Global Insight products.

Seems to me that VM is incorrect.
In Canada we calculate slope by dividing vertical displacement

MI Extracting Bounded coords

1999-11-25 Thread Steve Smith

RE: Extracting bounded coordinates from MapInfo.

We have bounded layers and the coordinates are in Lats and Longs to 8 and 7
decimal places.

To extract the coordinates using commands in the MapBasic windows or under MBX
control to 8 and 7 decimal places you must,

set coordsys TABLE BoundedTabName

where BoundedTabName = an open layer with the bounds set.

If you open a single bounded layer in MapInfo and

set coordsys WINDOW frontwindow()

MapInfo does not set the coordsys to the bounds as I would have expected and you
will only extract 6 decimal places on your coordinates. It would appear that
even though all the layers in a Map window are bounded except the cosmetic
layer, the coordsys of the window is unbounded.

MI calcomp digitizers and MAC

1999-11-25 Thread Figuers

calcomp digitizers cannot interface with MAC's at all. Summagraphics have a
converter that allows most of them to connect to MAC's (up to the summagrid
IV, the summagrid V cannot hook up to a MAC). There are some bugs in the mac
summagraphic software (summagraphics was sold before the bug could be fixed).
They work fine for tables 2x3 foot and smaller, but only 2/3's of a larger
tablet will be recognized.

Calcomp bought summagraphics and they are now GTCO. None of the current
tablets will hook up to a MAC. They are thinking of creating a USB devise
that will allow the newer tablets to connect to a MAC.

MI concentric ring buffer tool

1999-11-25 Thread Dick Hoskins

When I use the concentric buffer tool that is packaged
with MI 5.5 I get all kinds of errors I never heard of and are not documented.
One I get is "too many open files"  (3 are open) , I have .5 gig RAM , when
I try to use the statistics part. Another error is "Cannot include datatype
clause if updating existing column" and others. Also the feature to set the
appearance of the buffers( color, fill pattern) doesn't work. Generally it
appears that the concentric ring buffer tool is not all that good. Would anyone
have another one?

I need to be able to make concentric rings around a point or
polygon and then estimate the covariates on the buffers from data underneath,
sum for sure, average and weighted average and count as well - like population
from overlaying buffers over census tract data, etc.

Thanks a lot

MI Missing MapImages in MapXtreme

1999-11-25 Thread Timothy Chinchen Cen-IT

Although I'm a "HaHTSiter" I'm sure similar things apply to asp's. Check the
path of your MapImage directory - its quite possible that the asp pages were
using either a virtual path or your config has been altered.
Check the path settings using MapXtreme Server Administrator, also check the
settings in your IIS setup for your MapImage directory + the directory
settings for your asp's.

RE: MI workspace opening problems

1999-11-25 Thread PERRY Chris

Laith,

This will be a problem with a renamed or missing field in a table. The
MapInfo Workspace is trying to set up labels on a field called "ID" which no
longer exists. (even though you may never have put any labels on).

MAKE BACKUPS OF ALL TABLES AND WORKSPACES BEFORE MODIFYING!

So, you have a few options:

1. Find the offending table which used to have the ID field and replace it
or rename it back to "ID". (WARNING this may have the same effect on other
workspaces created recently using the same table!)

2. Open the workspace IN A TEXT EDITOR and find where MapInfo is trying to
set up the labels. Parts of your workspace will look something like this:

Set Map
  Layer 1
Display Global
Global Symbol (46,16711680,9)
Label Line Arrow Position Right Font ("Arial",0,7,0) Pen (1,2,0)
  With ID
Parallel On Auto Off Overlap Off Duplicates On Offset 2
  Visibility On
  Layer 2
Display Graphic
Label Line Arrow Position Right Font ("Arial",0,9,0) Pen (1,2,0)
  With ROAD_NAME
Parallel On Auto Off Overlap Off Duplicates On Offset 2
  Visibility On

What I usually do is just delete the 4 lines from
  Label Line...
 to
   ...Visibility On.

If I had no labels in the workspace at all, I often delete EVERY occurance
of these label statements, otherwise you can search for the ones that say
"With ID" on the second line and just delete those.

3. You can do similar to above, but change the "With ID" to whatever the new
name of the column is (or any other column).

Hope this helps.

Re: MI-OS projection & creating points

1999-11-25 Thread Keith Campbell

Sharon,

First of all, you'll need to split your coordinates into 2 columns,
one for eastings, one for northings. You can then use the 'Create
Points' function to map these points. There is an option in the
dialog box to choose a different projection system. Pick the
'Projection..' button and you'll get another dialog. In this, select
'British Coordinate systems' from the 'Category' popdown list and
then select 'British National Grid' from the 'Category Members'
listbox. Select OK.

Back in the main dialog, you need to select the correct columns from
your database to provide the X and Y cooordinates, and by the looks
of your data, multiply the coordinates by 100 to give values in
metres.

You can also select a symbol style for your points.

And then pick OK!

You can then open the table in a mapper.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Keith

MI5.5, SpatialWare2.2 ODBC Error

1999-11-25 Thread Timothy Chinchen Cen-IT

Dear All
I was wondering if someone could unscramble this error.

ODBC Error: ODBC RC=-1, ODBC SQLState=37000,
DBMS RC=0, DBMS Msg=[SpatialWare ODBC (2.2-32)]
Failure in Parsing - Spatial-SQL Statement ORA-01786:
FOR UPDATE of this query is not allowed -
SELECT COUNT(1) FROM "ODBCCONNECT"."MYTABLE".

We are using SpatialWare 2.2 (Oracle 7.3.2.Etc) and our recently upgraded
MI5.5 - this error doesn't occur with 5. Even more annoyingly it downloads
the table but interrupts with the rest of the code by halting my MB app
right there.
The error message above was generated using the manual opening "of the DBMS
table"
To open in my app I use something like the following:-

dim conNum as integer
If ConNum = 0 then
ConNum = server_connect ("qelib","DSN=ODBCCONNECT")
End If
server conNum link table
"select * from MYTABLE"
into DATA_MYTABLE

Some of the other tables work quite happily but this table is "non-mappable"
but contains important FKey information.
If anyone knows of this problem or can answer my query I'd be most
appreciative
Thanks

1999-11-25 Thread Laith Wark

Friends,

How can I get around workspace opening problems:

a) "Variable or Field ID not defined"
b) "invalid view layer"

I need this workspace to open now.

Thanks in advance.
