 No, Mapinfo 5.5 doesn't recognice Oracle816 , you should use Mapinfo 6 
 beta to do that (you can donwload this beta at mapinfo web)

I all,
we are currently in the process of translating our applications in spanish 
and we are stuck with the term Layer.
Actually, what we are looking for is the exact word MI uses in its spanish 
version for Layer.
 
Any help will be much appreciated.
