MI MapXtreme Java on Sun

Hi All,

I am looking for feedback from people that have set up a MapXtreme application on a
UNIX workstation running Sun Solaris. Are there any problems with bringing MapInfo
TAB files across from Windows into Solaris? Other problems, or was the development
smooth sailing?

Looking forward to your replies.

MI Bug in Table > Update Column?

2000-06-29 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

I was showing some clients this function of MapInfo Pro v6.0. I have a table with 4
polygons in it representing catchments. I also have a temporary table that I had
created from an SQL Select. I used some of the data aggregation functions to produce
some statistics on population per catchment area.

I wanted to use the Table > Update Column to transfer data from the SQL select table
into the polygon table. I had an ID column in both tables, with numbers 1-4. When I
tried to transfer the AVG pop value from the SQL table to the polygon table, the pop
values were not put into the correct record. For example, polygon 1 should have an
average of 44.8. Instead of getting that, I had a value of say 222.4. The data
values are all there, but they are not in the proper order. polygon 1 has the pop
data for polygon 3. I have never seen this happen before. I can send anyone that is
interested the two files and the SQL query used for the data aggregation. I look
forward to hearing from you.

MI changing number columns in histogram

2000-06-08 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

Hi All,

Could somebody please let me know how to change the number of columns that show up in
a histogram that is done via the MapInfo Pro v5.5 graphing tool? The graph always
comes up with each bar being an aggregation of a number of binned values. I want one
bar for each data value in the histogram. Thanks.

1. if the centroid for a label falls outside the edge of your map window, the label
will not print
2. could be a Windows problem. time to reboot *S*

MI question about labels disappearing

2000-05-04 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

Hi All,

I have a client that is running MI Pro v5.5. He says that he has a layer of points
and wants to autolabel them with their ID. He has the checkboxes for allowing
overlapping text and allowing duplicate text on. When he views the autolabel text in
his map window, not all the labels appear. I asked him if the point locations were
close together so one label overlaps another. He said that is not the case. He said
that he can use the label tool and label these unlabelled locations, but would prefer
not to have to search through his whole file. Has anyone else hit this problem?

Looking forward to your replies as always.

MI 24 bit colour solution

1999-11-23 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

Hi all.

Thanks for all the replies to my query about the Registry Editor. It is
called "regedit.exe" and is located in the \windows directory. MI v5.5
sets the registry to use 24 bit colour, but I did not know that till
later. The MI registry entry is in
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MapInfo\MapInfo\Common
and is a string key called UseTrueColor. It has a value of 1 (on).

Hi everybody,

if he opens up a browser view of the map, he can see all his attribute
data. Anybody else have this problem, and what was the solution?

Re: MI - number of columns

1999-09-21 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

Hi Tom,

The number of columns varies. The reason is that the limit is based on
a certain number of characters being allowed for a record. I do not
remember what the maximum numbers of characters is. I came across this
problem about a year ago and MI Tech Support was able to provide me with
that limit. I do not have that info at my fingertips anymore. You may
want to ask MapInfo.

I hope this helps.

Hello Agustin,

Is this square visible in your layout window? If it is, single click on

make the border around your frame disappear.

MI Solution/summary on DLL programming problem

1999-09-09 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

Hi,

I received many emails with ideas to my problem of not being able to
link to a .dll. One person suggested to use Quick View in Windows
Explorer to see the export table in the dll. There was none visible. I
was using Windows 95. When I used Quick View in Windows NT, the export
table is visible for the dll, and if I ran my mbx in Windows NT, the mbx
did link to the dll. Why this is so, I do not know yet. It could be a
Microsoft operating system bug, or a bug in the dll. If anyone can add
info to this, please let me know.

Thanks.

Re: MI Updating a table text field

1999-09-08 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

Hi Matt,

After you select the relevant vectors, you can do a Table > Update
Column. For table to update use "selection". You would then type in
the text you want in the expression builder window and then MapInfo
would paste that text into all records that were selected.

Cheers,
Karl

MI Mapbasic DLL programming question

1999-09-02 Thread Karl Kliparchuk

Hi everybody,

I have a MapBasic programming question. I am trying to link to a DLL
but when I run my MBX I get the message "Unable to load library abc.dll.
Unable to link to external library abc.dll". Has anyone come across
this before? I heard from MapInfo that only 32 bit dll's are supported
and this is a 32 bit dll so that shouldn't be the problem.

The dll is in C. A snippet of one of the functions in the .h file is:

ABC_OBJECT_C_API ABC_MsgNum ABC_SessionCreate
(ABC_SESSION_HANDLE *sessionHandle); <-- note that sessionHandle has an
"*" infront of it.
ABC_SESSION_HANDLE is typedef'd as an unsigned long.

In my .MB program declared the function as:

Declare Function ABC_sessionCreate LIB "abc.dll"
  (ABC_sessionHandle As Integer) As Integer

The dll is called "abc.dll", all lower-case letters. My mbx is stored
in the same subdirectory as the dll.

I defined ABC_sessionHandle as an Integer.

My function call is:
check_status = ABC_sessionCreate (ABC_sessionHandle)
At this point I get the unable to load dll error message.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
