RE: MI saving workspaces

1999-08-06 Thread Korkovelos, Dina, CPG

Natalie,

Regarding the following e-mail and responses, I would recommend that in the
text file editing process you include the word "interactive" at the end of
each open file command at the beginning of your workspace file. That way,
Mapinfo will prompt you to point to the correct file upon opening. Hope
this info helps!

The problem here is you don't know what drive letter the other person's CD
is (not always "D"). For instance, mine is "S".

RE: MI maximum qty of points

1999-08-06 Thread Korkovelos, Dina, CPG

Martin,

Don't know if you got a response to this yet, but from what I gathered of
your e-mail, you mean that your graphical points form a straight line. I
would imagine that this occurred in the rounding or dropping of decimal
points in the coordinates that you are using.

Hi all,

I recently had to combine 2 tables containing
75 000 points of elevation each into a "so called"
BigFile with Comb_lay.mbx in MI 5.0

All the points of one table got alligned in
a straight vertical line... !!
Is a file with 150 000 points too big for MI 5.0 ?
Is there a max limit ?

Chad,

should just move from window to window to move out of that view.

To anyone that can help me,

After I create a legend for a particular layer, I can not get it to
reappear after I close it! From what I understand from the user's
guide, when I a create a legend it is supposed to stay; so what is going
on?? Is this possible or do I have to create and customize a legend
everytime I want one? If anyone can help please do!

Thanks.

RE: MI Minding Your Business with MapInfo

1999-07-12 Thread Korkovelos, Dina, CPG

Gareth,

Yes, I bought the book. I found that it was not technically oriented at
all. Really was just a very broad look at GIS and what you can do with it.
Didn't really explain the concepts of GIS, nor was it imaginative in its
discussion of MI/GIS capabilities.

Mappers,

Has any one bought the book entitled "Minding Your Business with MapInfo" by
Whitener & Davis? If so what were your requirements - did it fulfil them -
i.e. is it worth the purchase?

RE: MI Access 2000 bug

1999-07-09 Thread Korkovelos, Dina, CPG

John,

You don't have to write code to export to .dbf format. Mapinfo 5.0 allows
you to save to .dbf file format under the TABLE/EXPORT function. Hope this
info can save you at least a bit of heartache.

Subject: MI Access 2000 bug

We upgraded this morning to Access 2000 and found that MapInfo cannot create
a new table in Access 2000 using the 'create table' command. I'm still
running version 5.0. Does anyone know if v5.5 can create tables in Access
2000?

If not, then this note serves as a warning to fellow mappers and a call to
action on the part of MapInfo to fix this.

For the moment, I'm going to have to rewrite a lot of code to export to DBF
and then import to Access manually. :(
