A work-around is to disable Pro's optimization, and that's done in the registry by setting the key (adding it, if it's not there) "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/MapInfo/MapInfo/Common/OffScreenBitmap" to 0 (maybe string "0"). And restart Pro. The redraw will be slower, but you won't have any fragmentation problems. I don't know why it happens on some machines. Maybe the graphic card's too fast, or maybe it's not 100% complaint to specs. If anyone's got an idea as to the core of the problem, I'd be delighted to know too. I assume it is some incompatibility between MapInfo and the video card - we have had three different machines/cards over the eyars and the problem still pops up now and then. I haven't been able to work out what the problem is or what triggers it, but it does seem to happen more when you have lots of layers in view. We are still using 4.1.2 so I don't know if this is a problem with later versions. If you find how to eliminate it, please let me know. MI Perpendicular Lines
Hi List I have a slight issue that I need resolved, I have a line that has start, end and centroid, I want to generate a perpendicular line to the original one with the new perpendicular having its centroid at the same point as the original line, so the new shape would be like an "X". This may be simple but I have been running around in different areas and can't see the answer, maybe I can't see the forest for the trees but any help would be appreciated. regards Mark PollardSenior Consultant Information ServicesDRYDEN TECHNOLOGIESPh: 61 (2) 9542-2808Fax: 61 (2) 9542-2806Web: www.drydentech.com The information contained in this email communication may be confidential. Just because it mentioned "GIS" doesn't mean it wasn't just a bald-faced advertisement. In addition, it's NOT the first GIS magazine for Asia. GEO World Asia/Pacific has been covering this region for years (see http://www.geoplace.com if you're interested.) I still think the best way to draw business online is to FIRST establish yourself as a contributing member of the community, not to introduce yourself by treating the community as a resource to be exploited. The only time we hear from these folks is through bulk mailings to all the GIS lists they could find...all at once (another unwise thing to do.) Considering that Asia will be where the action is online in the 21st century, there's an incredible opportunity to build a community foundation here. RE: MI Help with finding intersection coordinates
Try using the Overlay nodes command first or the intersects command, you could even return the section inside the radius with the overlap function and then find the end node of the segment. hope this helps Mark Pollard Senior Consultant Information Services DRYDEN TECHNOLOGIES Ph:61 (2) 4229-3498 Fax: 61 (2) 4229-3930 Web: www.drydentech.com <http://www.drydentech.com> _ The information contained in this email communication may be confidential. RE: MI Drivetime Analysis Packages
Dryden technologies sell a Software package called MarketDrive, built by MapInfo in Australia. It allows market catchment analysis and routing. There is also no need to build networks for the software as this is done for all of Australia. There is no reason why data couldn't be put into the system for other countries if the data existed in a good format. For Australia it is basically install, run, point and click and it will return either boundaries or routes based upon your settings. don't hesitate to ask for more info. best regards Mark Pollard Senior Consultant Information Services DRYDEN TECHNOLOGIES Ph:61 (2) 4229-3498 Fax: 61 (2) 4229-3930 Web: www.drydentech.com <http://www.drydentech.com> _ The information contained in this email communication may be confidential. I had a look at this product, and am about to look at DrivePlan as well. RWNet looks quite impressive. I am presently doing vehicle tracking, but would like to add this kind of capability to my system. What I don't yet know is what form I need to collect data in to make it useful for either of these products. As we are in Asia, there isn't much in the way of information on roads, so we have been driving around with GPS units in vehicles, logging the data then "joining the dots" to make roads. Obviously there is more to it than that. Do we need to collect other attributes? I can imagine that road type, speed limit, road names, etc, etc, might be useful, or maybe even necessary. Is there some sort of generic list of data that needs to be collected in order to make it useful for drivetime analysis? I'm also unsure of what format it should be put into MapInfo (to keep it on topic). I could sign up for either of these packages straight away, but would rather collect enough data first in a format that would work generically with any drivetime analysis package so I could do some sort of comparison using our own data. Anyone working in this field know of resources where I could find more info? Any mailing lists on the subject?
