RE: MI Minding Your Business with MapInfo
Hi, Since they are some discussions about MapInfo literature on the list right now, I would like to remind the list community of the excellent book of Ian Johnson : "Understanding MapInfo". This book has a real unbiased approach, demonstrating MapInfo's goodies and weaknesses. Really easy to understand. Unfortunately the book is dated of 1996 and its information is based on MapInfo 4.0. I wonder if somebody knows if this great books has received any update already or if a new edition is planned. (If the author watches the list, perhaps he can inform us.) RE: MI Minding Your Business with MapInfo
Gareth, Yes, I bought the book. I found that it was not technically oriented at all. Really was just a very broad look at GIS and what you can do with it. Didn't really explain the concepts of GIS, nor was it imaginative in its discussion of MI/GIS capabilities. Seemed to me it was simply a compilation of loose documentation of some of the mapping projects they had done for clients. It really didn't get into any depth on details or theory. I believe I threw it away, or I'd send you my copy.
