MI Open Workspace

1999-12-09 Thread ganeshag

Dear Mapper,
We are a GIS Consultant located in Bali, Indonesia. We use Mapinfo
Professional to process our map, and made some additional Mapinfo functions to
open workspace. For example: we handle the Mapinfo window into our program
window. We use Ms. Visual Basic as a tool, but we have a problem to open the
workspace with multiple windows, such as: one map window, one browser window,
and one layout window. We can not handle all of those windows, but only the map
window that we could handle it through our program. So, we would like to ask you
how we can solve this problem.

MI Open Workspace error

1999-08-26 Thread brian . forrester

Andrew,

Be careful that no-one has changed the name of the first column in any of
the tables loaded by your errant workspace.

If you find out which file has been changed, edit your workspace and get to
work:

You'll find a "Map From" section, with some tables loaded (including the
file whose column-name has been changed).

Count where the file appears in this list.

Go down to the "Set Map" section.

Assume for this example - your faulty table is fourth in the list,
someone's changed the first column from OldColumnName to NewColumn_Name

You'll see the following (or something similar);

Layer 4
Display Graphic
Label Line None Position Center Font ("Arial",0,9,0) Pen (1,2,0)
  With OldColumnName

Just change OldColumnName to NewColumnName.

If this isn't your current problem, be careful, in a multi-user
environment, It'll get you sometime!

Hope this helps.

Don't workspace error messages include a line number, that tells you where
it failed? This means you can just count down the lines in the .wor file to
see which particular command it doesn't like.

Hi Drew,

A suggestion, do you have labels that are based on a expression?  If you do then these labels may be looking for a column name that no longer exists.  The easiest way to check would be to go into layer control and then check the layers where the labels are activated and then go and check the label options to see what expression is used to determine the labels.

You need to check the column called "ID".

Cheers
Jacqueline

The past bunch of times that I have tried to open a workspace, either
through the "Open Previous Session" dialogue or through the File menu, I
have received the error message "Variable or fieldID not identified" and a
following message that the workspace cannot be fully opened.  I've tried
editing the *.wor file, but can find no obvious errors, e.g. files not in
the expected directories.  As well, I've resaved the workspace after
creating it again.  What variables or field ID's could  I be inadvertently
creating, and is there a way to identify them?
