Steven Feldman wrote: Why would you want to circumvent the limitations that the software developer has placed on the use of a free piece of software designed to facilitate the distribution of data created by users of MapInfo Pro (paid for software that funds the RD etc). I am in too good a christmas mood to indulge in a lengthy answer, but let me ask you, Steven, how much time you have spent 'facilitating the distribution of data' by using ProViewer? All they had needed to do was to leave in the layer control (minus the 'editable' icon). That had made a world of difference. Then again, you wouldn't expect a Word-VIEWER to do spell-checking, grammar-checking, new tables etc. for you, would you (what I'm really saying is: Works as designed?). ;-) Peter Peter Ketting GIS Consultant -Oprindelig meddelelse- Fra: Dan Munson [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sendt:10. december 1999 23:54 Til: Mats Elfström; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Emne: MI Re: Intelligent Use of ProViewer Matts, As you I can probably guess, Proviewer is probably MapInfo with a couple of extra statements (MapBasic). My guess is that the LAST statements it does are to build a custom menu to set the button pads. This is why whatever you do works, is after you run the workspace, it does these things. Yes, Proviewer is very limited. Its a good viewer, but you can't do much. (Note that the following is NOT intended as Friday humor) I am trying to put ProViewer into intelligent use, and therefore I need to improve the user interface. I would like to be able to add some menu choices and display information in the message window. It is true that this can be done by using workspace files as macros, but apparently only to a certain extent. Printing to a message window works, but the message window closes immediately. By adding a Note clause, this is prevented temporarily but the Notebox blocks you from accessing the message window. The method can be used if you have a limited amount of output, and you can also Set the Message window. Adding Menu items works in a sense, but they are erased at once. I have found no way of preventing this behaviour. Lastly, I tried creating a ButtonPad but this is also erased by the program at once. All the above wor-files work as expected within Professional, but it seems as if ProViewer does not allow alterations. Since these are badly needed, I am wondering if anyone has found a workaround to this problem. Maybe we should issue a contest for the most clever ProViewer scripts of the week?
