MI-L Selection Tool for Multiple-Point Geometry

2005-05-20 Thread Carden, Glen
Title: Message

It appears that the
Selection Tool requires the entire geometry of a record to be selected for it to
be recognised, which presents a problem in circumstances such as where a user
attempts to select one point that belongs to a record with a multiple point
geometry type.
Are there any
workarounds for this situation?
Many
Thanks

Glen Carden

MI-L Lines to Polygon Conversion

2005-05-20 Thread Menelo Argiropoulos
Good Day listers,

Does anyone out there know of a tool or software that can create polygons out
of lines.

I presently have a bounch of spagetti line work that came in from a CAD program
that represent the boundaries of parcels. I need to convert them into their
polygon format.

I would manually do this if there were only a few, however, I have about 80 000
parcels that need to be ceated from hundreds of thousands of lines.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Manny

MI-L set map order

2005-05-20 Thread Alan Gunn
Hello,

Does anyone know a trick to automatically put a layer that you open on
the bottom in mapbasic? I can't seem to think of a way when the number
of layers is always changing. Would this be a sort of loop that you set
up with the set map order command?

Thanks for any tips,

Alan

MI-L Register Table

2005-05-20 Thread Ian Robertson
Hi All,

Is it possible to register a table such that the tab file is in one
location (where I have permission to r/w) and the source file is in
another location (where I don't have permission to r/w)?

RE: MI-L Register Table

2005-05-20 Thread Nabors, Steve
I'm assuming you mean (where I don't have permission to r/w) = no permission
at all.

You can register the table in one location and have the source file in
another assuming have at least read rights in the source location. As soon
as you change the read rights to no permission at all, you can no longer
open the source file via the register file.

MI-L using Blue Marble Geographic Tracker & usb GPS

2005-05-20 Thread Cummings, Mike
Sam & list,

I just received a laptop (XP) with MI Pro 6.5 & a garmin 18 which uses a
USB port. I like to use the geographic tracker software. I notice that
the geographic tracker software looks for a COM port & doesn't recognize
the GPS on the USB port. Is there a way to get the software to
recognize a USB GPS unit or am I limited to a serial port connection?

Thanks,
Mike Cummings

re: MI-L using Blue Marble Geographic Tracker & usb GPS

2005-05-20 Thread Sam Knight
Hello Mike & Listers,
With the next release of MapInfo Professional an updated version of the
Geographic Tracker will be included. The update will include support for the
Garmin protocol, and USB connectivity for Garmin units. The Garmin protocol is
also enabled for Garmin units with an RS232 (serial) connection.

Currently in version 3.2 of the Geographic Tracker-MapInfo Edition, available
at our website, you have the ability to connect to a USB GPS if the GPS can
utilize one of the supported protocols (NMEA or TSIP) on COMs 1-12. Many USB
enabled GPS units (non-Garmin) can communicate using the NMEA protocol, and
come with software drivers to emulate COM communication. Due to the explosion
in popularity of the Garmin USB-enabled handhelds which can only communicate
via the Garmin proprietary protocol, support for the protocol was an obvious
next step. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Regards,
Sam Knight

MI-L Read Only Layers

2005-05-20 Thread Ali, Naz @ Vancouver
Hello,
We had a custom Map Basic application that was created for us. The
application runs smoothly on my machine. Next, we wanted to install the
application on a co-workers computer. We upgraded his version of MapInfo to
7.8, we did a whole new install, old version was 5.5. Then we ran the
application on his machine. However when we went to load the workspace, the
file did not load correctly because some of the files were read only. We
looked in the layer control and noticed that all layers were greyed out if
wanted to make them editable. Even if we selected the layer to be visible,
it still cannot be edited. When we try to geocode an address, it tells us
the layer is read-only and shuts the custom application down. We don't
think it is the application as it runs fine on other machines, any ideas
what could be going wrong??? Thanks in advance.
