MI-L Exporting symbol in MIPRO

2005-08-05 Thread Michel Van Asten
Hi

I have a layer with an "hard coded thematic"...

Is it possible to extract the textual representation of each distinct symbol
via a query ? ... something like this :

select symbol(obj), feattyp from MYLAYER GROUP BY featyp

RE: MI-L Table joins - with duplicates

2005-08-05 Thread Milo van der Linden
Hi,

So you want to match one single record of the parcels to an owner? Even if
the owner has two or more parcels you just want one connected directly? This
is possible, but then you need a criteria to join upon, for instance
parcel=primary parcel with the restriction that an owner can have only a
single primary parcel or max(area) to connect the biggest parcel. Please let
MI-L know if you have such a join criteria in mind. You could also build a
loop construction with Mapbasic programming to join the lot plan numbers for
instance as "Cindy Grey" "1/1234;2/43566"

Subject: MI-L Table joins - with duplicates

Hi listers,

I have two tables. One contains a single list of all property owners (table
A) , each is unique, the other contains a list of all properties of which
some owners own more than one and although the parcel details are unique the
column containing the owners name contains duplicates ( Table B). What im
trying to do is to update table A with the property details from table B
where my owners name is the same, and so effectively taking information from
each record where an owners name matches and updating a single field with
these details.

Is this possible?

Eg

Table A

Owner Lot Plan

Jerry Smith

Cindy Grey

Table B

Lot PlanOwner

1/1234 Cindy Grey

2/43566 Cindy Grey

2/789453 Jerry Smith

4/3782 Jerry Smith

The joined table would look like this

Owner

Jerry Smith2/789453, 4/3782

Cindy Grey1/1234, 2/43566

Re: MI-L NonOverlapping Rings

2005-08-05 Thread Uffe Kousgaard
In the tool manager in mapinfo there is a tool called "concentric ring
buffers". Perhaps that is what you are looking for?

Otherwise you can use the mapbasic window and type:

set coordsys mytable
Update mytable set obj=createcircle(centroidx(obj),centroidy(obj),radius)

where radius is a column in your table or a constant. Make a copy of your
table first!

I'm looking for a MapBasic sub procedure or function that can create
nonoverlapping rings around a list of points. Ideally, the function would
take a table or array of points and create a table of nonoverlapping rings
or buffers around the points.

Thanks,

MI-L Thematic Map with Arrows

2005-08-05 Thread Possberg, Hendrik
Dear List,

I am looking for a way to create a specific type of thematic Map with Mapinfo.
I do not know the correct name of this type of maps but want to describe what I
mean.
I have some polygons representing cities and now I want to show the migration
movements between these cities.
This should be done with arrows. The thickness of these arrows should vary
according to the value of migration.

My Questions:

What is the name of this thematic map?
Is this possible with Mapinfo ? (7.8 is available)
Does anybody know a MBX which produces these maps?
If not, does anybody have an idea what should be done to write an Application
for MI. (Mapbasic Available)

Thanks in Advance.

MI-L Réf. : MI-L Thematic Map with Arrows

2005-08-05 Thread christiane . roh
Yes, it's named flow charts.

There is a free little Mbasic porgram doing that. I'm very gratefull to
this list for passing me this info, so I pass it further.

The program is named Arrows. Its a free utility.

You'll have to provide a table with origin and destination, then the
corresponding flow. The program will add a new layer containing the
arrows. You can then use these arrows in order to make a thematic maps,
coloring the arrows to your liking (for example depending upon the
characteristic of the migrants.. or the type of transport used in the case
of dayly commuters..).
You can play with several parameters in order to calibrate your arrows and
their shapes. It's based on trial and errors.. some choices will give
better results than others, but it allows many different options. One
noyous thing is that there are no automated legends. So you have to add
fake origins and destination in order to get a legend as well. But it
works. It allows you to offset the arrow in order to draw bi-directional
flows.

You can download this MBX program from there
http://www.paris-pc-gis.com/externes/Files_from_other_origins.htm
The direct shortcut is :

Re: MI-L Thematic Map with Arrows

2005-08-05 Thread Uffe Kousgaard

Hello Hendrik,

I don't think you can do this as a thematic map, but you can do it in
mapbasic, by setting the width of all lines in points instead of pixels.
Pixels only allow the value 1-7, while points is a value from 0.1 to 203.7
in 0.1 steps. You just have to set up an expression based on your migration
that results in a proper value for the widths.

You will probably have to loop through all objects to do this or define your
own function and use that in the "update" command.

Uffe

Re: MI-L Spatialware and SQL server 2000 SP4

2005-08-05 Thread Lars V. Nielsen \(Hvenegaard\)
Hi Ole,

We've just installed SP4, and there is a serious problem we're trying to
address. We're finding that the below statement that has worked up until SP4
now renders point at 0,0:

UPDATE myTable SET sw_geometry = ' ST_Point('+CAST(Easting as
varchar(25))+','+CAST(Northing as varchar(25))+')'

I've verified that the insert + update trigger is defined on myTable, and
has verified that the sw_geometry values are not null. They're supposedly
valid point object, that render fine but with an invalid placement.

I've extracted the trigger content. It must be somewhere in the shown loop
that the error occur, but I can't determine whether it's the
master..xp_table_trigger (SpW extended sp) or in the UPDATE that errs:

-
FETCH NEXT FROM spatialtable_iu_cur INTO @spatialtable_iu_key
WHILE (@@FETCH_STATUS = 0)
BEGIN
EXEC master..xp_table_trigger '[GIS].[dbo].[myTable]', '[sw_member]',
'[sw_geometry]', '[MYDB].[dbo].[myTable#25t19]', @spatialtable_iu_key

UPDATE [MYDB].[dbo].[myTable] SET [sw_geometry] = a.spatialvalue FROM
[MYDB].[dbo].[myTable#25t19] AS a
WHERE [MYDB].[dbo].[myTable].[sw_member] = @spatialtable_iu_key
  AND a.keyvalue = @spatialtable_iu_key

DELETE FROM [MYDB].[dbo].[myTable#25t19] WHERE keyvalue =
@spatialtable_iu_key

FETCH NEXT FROM spatialtable_iu_cur INTO @spatialtable_iu_key
END
--

I was prompted to backup the master and msdb databases after the SP4
install, so it may be the changes in the master database that's causing the
problem.

We're running SpW 4.5, but as I remember you're running 4.8, so it doesn't
look like a version dependent problem in SpW.

I would recommend to not install SP4 before this problem has been solved.

Best regards / Med venlig hilsen

Hello Hendrik,

I have created a small application doing this (Christine's arrow40 tool
doesn't come with source code):

include "mapbasic.def"

declare function UpdateWidth(byval Mobj as object, byval Mwidth as float) as
object

function UpdateWidth(byval Mobj as object, byval Mwidth as float) as object
dim NewPen as Pen
NewPen = ObjectInfo(Mobj, OBJ_INFO_PEN)
NewPen =
makepen(Mwidth*10+10,styleattr(NewPen,PEN_PATTERN),styleattr(NewPen,PEN_COLOR))
Alter Object Mobj Info OBJ_INFO_PEN, NewPen
UpdateWidth=Mobj
end function

' width is a field in the table with a value from 0.1 to 203.7 points
update mytable set obj=UpdateWidth(obj,width)

Thanks to Peter Horsbøll Møller for reminding me to include "byval" in the
function declaration.

MI-L Query Find function in MapInfo with Oracle Spatial tables

2005-08-05 Thread Vinesh Govind

MapInfo Users

We are using MapInfo Pro. to access Oracle Spatial tables.

One of our users has pointed out to me that they cannot use the Query /
Find function when using Oracle Spatial tables.

Is this a common problem and is this something our DBA can do to rectify
this problem.

The Query / Find function works perfectly with MapInfo tables in their
native format.

Any solutions or suggestions would be useful.

Thanks.

Thank you

MI-L Recovering a workspace

2005-08-05 Thread Driver, Greg 9434
Hi,

I've inadvertently overwritten a workspace and I was wondering if anyone
could recommend a tool to try and recover it? Is it possible to do this in
the first place?

Greg.

RE: MI-L Query Find function in MapInfo with Oracle Spatial tables

2005-08-05 Thread Peter Horsbøll Møller
This is a known "feature".

You can use the find function on Oracle Spatial Tables, if you use
linked/download instead of Live access. With linked tables you can add an index
on columns.
The problem is that MapInfo needs a index on the table to search and MapInfo
can't use the Oracle index for this

Subject: MI-L Query Find function in MapInfo with Oracle Spatial tables

MapInfo Users

We are using MapInfo Pro. to access Oracle Spatial tables.

One of our users has pointed out to me that they cannot use the Query / Find
function when using Oracle Spatial tables.

Is this a common problem and is this something our DBA can do to rectify this
problem.

The Query / Find function works perfectly with MapInfo tables in their native
format.

Any solutions or suggestions would be useful.

Thanks.

Re: MI-L Recovering a workspace

2005-08-05 Thread Mats Elfström

Hi Greg!

That was most unfortunate. As you may be aware, a work space is no more
than a text file, a script, and MapInfo keeps no knowledge of previous or
current workspaces once they are processed.
So you must resort to your current backup routines, or some external tool
for file recovery. Since the new file has overwritten the previous file,
the 'waste basket' is of no use.
This will not help you now, but to protect important workspaces, I use to
set their read-only attribute, or, in a shared environment, assign only
read rigths in the shared workspace folder to common users.
Another tip, to avoid accidental destruction of workspaces, is to save a
newly opened wor file at once under a temporary name or location. Thus, a
hasty Save will not hit the original file.

RE: MI-L ObjectGeography () function

2005-08-05 Thread Milo van der Linden
Open a mapbasic window in MapInfo.
Enter
"set coordsys table MyTable" and press enter, the calculation coordsys will
be set to the tables coordsys
"set coordsys window frontwindow()" and press enter, the calculation
coordsys will be set to the mapwindows coordsys

Now redo the function you mentioned. This time the coordinate system will be
correctly interpreted.

 Kind regards,

I've used ObjectGeography (table.obj, {3|4}) function in order to get X,Y

Long/Lat into UTM31Nmeters; is there any function or tool outthere? (NOT

MI-L MIPro versions - index versions - Find function

2005-08-05 Thread szisz

Hi Listers,

I've got some loosely connected questions/problems with MI and indexed
.tab versions.

   Try to explain the problem:

There is 2 version of MI in use (6.5 and 5.0).
To use the "Query/Find ..." function the tabs are indexed with 6.5 -
Find works fine.

Using the same dataset Find on 5.0 works erroneously -
(the first character is OK, but the second is wrong)
- so reindexing with 5.0 - Find works fine.
... but then 6.5 with same dataset ...
... and than 5.0 again ... ;-(

My second problem is case sensitivity in searches.

Find in 5.0 seems case insensitive whilst in 6.5 case sensitive (it may
be a "feature", but because it makes work harder users don't see like this).

Is there a method to swith case sensitivity off in MI 6.5?

   And finally the third one:

How can I make "standard" .tabs suitable for Excel DataMap (so that I
can import them with Datainst.exe /including searchable attribute data/)

Thxalot in advance 4 any ideas!
szisz

Set your Session projection to desired one via Options>Preference>Map
Window. Do this BEFORE you run the objgeography update, since changing the
session projection doesn't convert existing data.
