Re: [MI-L] new app "Project Grande"?

2006-05-12 Thread Lars I. Nielsen (GisPro)

There is a huge gap between supporting the small
MapBasic subset needed for workspace support, and support for the full
MapBasic language as we know it today.

As I understand it, there are fundamental differences in the COM and
.Net data models (selections, thematics etc.), resulting in many MB
commands being "wrong" in the context of the new data model.

How this can be reconciled remains to be seen. It will most likely only
be a subset of MapBasic that'll be supported in Grande, rendering many
mbx's invalid.

The better option - imho - is for MapInfo to open source MapBasic,
opening up for possible 3rd party enhancements. But is MapInfo willing
to do that ?

At MapWorld last week they showed a version of Grande that was able to open a workspace (.WOR), that contains MapBasic commands.
So they have already started implementing some sort of MapBasic support into the Grande Project, which will be the next generation desktop GIS from MapInfo.

[MI-L] Slightly OT - image rectification

2006-05-12 Thread Mats Elfström

Hi List!

I have a question which is slightly off topic, but may be of some general interest nevertheless.
What is the best way to recalculate raster images to another system, so that they can be used in applications that rely on one insertion point only, like world files or geotiffs do?
I need to be able to use local swedish coordinate systems (treated as non earth systems) as well as regional or national swedish systems which are earth systems. MapInfo has a very good coverage of Swedish systems.
I have looked at some applications but they fail to support non earth systems, or swedish systems.
I have no need for the Guam, Easter Island or Oman systems.

2006-05-12 Thread Sam Knight

Hello Mats,
Have you looked at our Geographic Transformer
 applications?  We have two versions
that might be of interest to you, both apps
offer an evaluation.  The full Transformer
 standalone application georeferences/reprojects/mosaics/tiles images
to pretty much whatever projection you need,
if there's a coordinate system not in our
 database, new definitions are easily
 added.  Transformer supports MrSID,
ECW, Jpeg2000, GeoTiff/Tiff, Jpeg, and other
 formats.  Evaluation download:
http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/products/transformer.php?op=download&file=212
We also offer a lighter weight Geographic
Transformer Extension for MapInfo Pro that
allows you to quickly reproject images to a
new output image within MapInfo itself.
 Evaluation download:

[MI-L] Moving an object and it gets duplicated.

2006-05-12 Thread Terry McDonnell

Hey List
My problem is that I was moving objects around and somehow I
ended up with 3 recs the same (one hidden underneath another, such that there
only appeared to be 2). At the time I probably had the Info dialog open, as I
was testing my software's ability to change the lat/long integer fields,
according to the x/y whefre the object ended up, at Save time. I have not been
able to reproduce this "glitch", notr did I
notice when it happened.
Anyone got any ideas how this can
happen
'ppreciate it

Re: [MI-L] Chinese Lambert Conformal Conic Projections

2006-05-12 Thread Dr. Franz-Josef Behr

Dear Barbara,

one of my Chinese master students, Li Hui MSc, told me:

As I know:
In China, the basical scale map include:1:5000, 1:10T, 1:25T
,1:50T,1:100T,1:250T,1:500T,1:1000T
And, if the scale is bigger than 500T, uses Gauss-Kruger projection
if smaller than 500T, uses Lambert Conformal Conic projection,
and smaller than 500T on the sea, uses Mercator projection.

Hi

Does anyone have the details for datums and projections used in Chinese
maps? I have downloaded some of the CIESIN data and it's in Lambert
Conformal Conic projection. The readme file includes the following:

COORDINATE SYSTEM

All coverages are in LAMBERT CONFORMAL CONIC PROJECTION with

two standard parallel latitudes: 25.00N and 47.00N. The central meridian is

110.00E and the latitude of projection's origin is 10.00N. The units are

meters.

If anyone has the details to edit the mapinfo.prj file it would be very
greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Barbara Carroll
