Hi again,

I am trying to create a Newsgroup-Account on Server 'lists.directionsmag.com' (Port: 119) using Thunderbird. But I couldn't get it. Clicking on Subscribe Newsgroup there are no newsgroups listed?!? What is wrong there?

BTW: Thanks to those answering on my 'Grouping a Layer'-Question. Kent
has been first and with his advices I could solve the problem!

[MI-L] Take 2...

2006-05-23 Thread Space Age Design
Me again...

Have given up on using Spatialware to update one of my data layers and now attempting to stay within the MapInfo environment...

Can someone explain why when Iissue the following MapBasic command, records that don't match the "where" criteria are being violated ?

Add Column "property" (Heritage )From State_heritage Set To "State" Where within

From issuing the above, I was expecting that ONLY Property Polygon Records that have a Heritage Point Record within them would have the field heritage set to "State" but am finding that all the other Property records are having theirheritage fields reset to null

Cheers

Johnno

I didn't think there WAS a NNTP source for these newsgroups / lists - I
thought they were all email, by-subscription - see website
http://lists.directionsmag.com/ which will take you to
http://lists.directionsmag.com/discussion/

Out of interest I attempted to set a NNTP source in Outlook Express 6, and
it bombs out - can't find server. Actually, I like the NNTP way of handling
community dialogue.

But what is the right code in Expert mode worjking with a spatialware table?
Using:

How can I achieve the reduction of objects with the attrib M1M2

[MI-L] Advise on Plotters

2006-05-23 Thread John Nott

Hello Listers,

I am working with a medium sized business and we are looking
to get a plotter. We would be hoping to get something of good quality for A1/A0
size plots from MapInfo. As we are still growing we wouldnt use it that heavily
(perhaps 10 plots/week or thereabouts)

Has anyone any good experience of reasonably priced plotters
for this type of use. Budget is a big consideration but we would like to get a
reasonably reliable and high quality plotter which will work well with MapInfo
(V8)

Thanks for any help!!!

What if you use this statement:

Select *

From databasename.dbo.spatialwaretable

where ((Nr1='200') or (Nr2='200')) and (M1M2)

Pay attention to the extra () around the two first expressions and that I have removed the )( around

When combining AND and OR in a statement, I always recommend grouping the expressions with () otherwise you might not get the result you expect

Ang. [MI-L] MapInfo Symbols

2006-05-23 Thread Mats Elfström

Hi Andrew!

There is really nothing particular about
the True Type fonts that MapInfo uses as symbols, other than that they
need to have the symbol attribute set in order to appear in the symbols
font picker.

One useful page is http://www.mapsymbols.com/symbols2.html

This is said to be for ESRI stuff, but
the symbol fonts work in Mapinfo as well.
Some links seem obsolete today, though.

[MI-L] Changing a layer in all map windows

Hello Listers,

I am mapping 28 cities and currently have 28 map windows open in the

layer (for example the colors in a thematic map) in each of the 28 map
windows without going into each map window individually?

Thanks in advance!

[MI-L] Longitude, Latitude Converter

2006-05-23 Thread Ericson, Tim
Title: Message

I am trying to convert the Long/Lat coordinates from DMS to
Decimal.

I have the data set up in
dd,mm,ss and am trying to use the convert tool in MapInfo 7.5.

When I run the converter,
the column where the decimal Long or Lat is supposed to go comes up with a
decimal number of 9.99

ex: a Latitude of
32,18,02 comes up converted as 9.9

What am I doing

SUM Re: [MI-L] Great Circle Plots

2006-05-23 Thread Ian Erickson

Great Circle Plots: Summary

Special thanks goes to Lars I. Nielsen for his utility to create Great
Circle Plots. While we didn't end up using it this time around - it has
some nifty features that make generating Create Circle Routes on any map
a quick and easy process.

Lars' GrCircle utility (and source code) can be found at:
http://www.ni-fam.dk/get2net/download/

For those of you who need to create bunches of Great Circle routes for a
table with n-thousand records, we wrote a simple utility to do it. The
utility (and source) for our batch Great Circle utility can be found at:

http://www.analygis.com/Downloads/index.htm

- Ian

Ian Erickson wrote:

I'm looking for a tool that will create Great Circle plots - and more
importantly - render them correctly if they cross the International
Date Line. I've got a table of From Lat/Lon values and 'To' Lat/Lon
values. There are only 91 lines to create, but I'd rather use an
automated approach...if someone has already done the work.
