[MI-L] PCX files

2006-07-18 Thread Ian Hull

Hi All,

I have just come across a curious problem with MapInfo 8.5.  I have a set of registered pcx raster files on a network drive. If I try and open the tab file, MI crashes with a fatal error. If I copy the pcx and tab file to my C drive the table opens fine. If I convert the network pcx to a tif (and amend the .tab accordingly) then the table opens fine. The network pcx/tab files worked fine with MI 7.5.

Has anyone else had come across this?

Regards,

Ian Hull

[MI-L] Refreshing a map after deleting objects

2006-07-18 Thread David Baker
I am drawing some polylines in a layer called Predictions. When I toggle a
button I want all the polylines to disappear. In fact I'm happy to kill the
whole table.

I am using the following code where I have 4 lines of code that I thought
would have wiped the polylines off my map. However, even with all these
different methods, the polylines still stay in view on the map.

For cownt = 1 to NumTables()
If TableInfo(cownt, TAB_INFO_NAME) = "Predictions" Then
Remove Map Layer "Predictions" ' should
remove the layer from the map
Drop Map Predictions ' should get rid of the
map layer completely
Drop Table Predictions ' should delete the
table/layer completely
Update Window WindowID(WIN_MAPPER) ' should
refresh the map window
Exit For
End If
Next

If I zoom in or out, or even open the Layer Control box & press OK, the
polylines from the Predictions layer on the map disappear, so the code
above is actually working, but none of the methods will get rid of the
polylines.

Does anyone know any more methods that will work? I'm almost desperate
enough to force a zoom at the same scale as the map window is already, but
only as a last resort.

I am using MI 8.0 & MB 8.0, but would prefer a solution that will work with
MI 4.5 if possible.

Thanks,

Dave

2006-07-18 Thread Peter Horsbøll Møller
David,

Make sure that you haven't turned off the Map Redraw and forget to turn it on
again.
This is done with the "Set Map Redraw Off" command. If you have used this
remember to turn it on again with "Set Map Redraw On"

You could also try changing your "Update Window WindowID(WIN_MAPPER)" to
"Update Window frontWindow()".
I assume that the front window is the map window in question here

I have seen this behaviour myselv a few times, and have also in some cases been
desperate enough to do a change of zoom thru MapBasic to update the map.

[MI-L] Re: Custom Symbols

2006-07-18 Thread Leva, Mark
Hi,

I have read your past postings on reloading custom symbols to a shared folder
so everyone can access it and it works for the people in my office, but when I
tried to send the following the mabasic command to someone in another office
it's not working for them. I used this in the Startup.WOR file:

!Workspace
!Version 400
!Charset WindowsLatin1
Reload Custom Symbols from "S:\Map_Info\CUSTSYMB"

They do have a different drive then what we have here but we changed it
accordingly but still nothing. Any other explanations as to why? Any info
would be great, thanks!

[MI-L] Features of MI 8.5 and GeoRSS Coming Soon

2006-07-18 Thread Bill Thoen
GISCafe's Susan Smith interviews Moshe Binyamin (senior product manager for
MapInfo) about some of the more interesting features of MapInfo v. 8.5 at
http://www10.giscafe.com/nbc/articles/view_weekly.php?articleid=288694.

One thing that caught my eye was that now that MapInfo supports XML and
HTTP, it looks like they're going to provide a GeoRSS reader as a MapInfo
utility. These new network capabilities seem to me to be a wide-open
opportunity for integrating MapInfo into all sorts of distributed
information applications.

[MI-L] Geo Referenced TIF Files

2006-07-18 Thread Ericson, Tim
Title: Message

Another basic question from
me

I have been able to open and use Geo-Referenced TIF files
with my Map Info 7.5.

BUT it seems like when the TIF files have an accompanying
TFW file, I cannot get the TIF
to geo-reference.

How do I open them? What am I doing
wrong?

Thanks!

I believe there is a
utility available on the Directions Mag site that will read a world file (TFW,
JPW etc..) and create a TAB file from the info.
If you need to
convert in batch, i created a batch converter that I would be happy to share
with anyone interested.

2006-07-18 Thread Warren Vick, Europa Technologies Ltd.
GeoRSS is interesting stuff, but I'd rather MapInfo first fix basic stuff in
Pro which doesn't work properly or is woefully inadequate by modern Windows
app' standards.
