[mapserver-users] capability to reproject to 2 different projections within the map object of the map file

2011-01-21 Thread John Mitchell
If I want all the layers within a map file no matter the layers own
projection to have the capability to reproject to 2 different projections
would I within the map object of the map file replace:
 PROJECTION
  init=epsg:4326
 END

With:
 PROJECTION
  init=epsg:4326
  init=epsg:102113
  END

Thanks,

John

[mapserver-users] EPSG code definition does not match the gdalinfo definition so I created a custom code

2009-11-02 Thread John Mitchell
I ran gdalinfo (listed at the bottom) for a jpeg 2000 that I want to host
via mapserver and it says that the EPSG code is 32128 but when I look at
this EPSG code definition within mapserver listed below I noticed that the
definition is listed in meters but gdalinfo is listed in feet and the
definition +x_0=60 but gdalinfo value is listed as
PARAMETER[false_easting,1968500].

# NAD83 / Pennsylvania North
32128 +proj=lcc +lat_1=41.95 +lat_2=40.88
+lat_0=40.16 +lon_0=-77.75 +x_0=60 +y_0=0 +ellps=GRS80
+datum=NAD83 +units=m +no_defs

I created a new EPSG code called 321288 which I believe matches the
definition that gdalinfo contains. Does this make sense?

[mapserver-users] converting a multi-thousand polygon shapefile into a shapefile that just contains the exterior vertices

Hi,

I have created a shape file via gdaltindex based a few thousand geotiff's.

I don't need all of the interior grids within this shape file just the
exterior vertices's.

How can I convert this shape file so that it does not have the interior grid
and just the exterior vertices's.

I am displaying this shape file within UMN MapServer and I want to increase
the performance by eliminating the drawing of the interior grids.

Re: [mapserver-users] Is using ECW format allowed or not?

2009-03-04 Thread John Mitchell
If instead of using compressed ECW images as input for MapServer WMS you had
GeoWebCache in front of MapServer which means that the WMS input is cached
tiled png's instead of ECW images from MapServer. Then I think that you get
around the ECW SDK license agreement, Correct???

Thanks,

John

The license agreement says that the ECW SDK cannot be used on a server
then goes on to define that as a computer connected to the Internet which
provides images. I'd say that clearly rules out MapServer consuming ECW.
Very unfortunate, but in my opinion very clear.

In my tests, I have found that JPEG2000 and ECW are really too slow for
production use anyway. Maybe that's some sour grapes consolation? :)

Below is the information that I would like to use to create an epsg code.
What would be format for the new epsg code? Is the information listed below
enough to create an epsg code and if not what am I missing?

*The 2001 data was originally in a Guatemalan Transverse Mercator coordinate

Scale Factor: 0.999800
Latitude of Origin: 0.000

*Below is the gdalinfo listing for one of files that I would like to
associate to this new epsg code:

*Driver: GTiff/GeoTIFF

2008-10-06 Thread John Mitchell
Thanks Roger,

Since I sent out the email I was able to derive the EPSG code and the only
difference between mine and yours was that I had +units=m and you had
+to_meter=0.3048006096012192. I think that my EPSG code is correct since my
below email had the Linear Unit = Meter and +to_meter=0.3048006096012192
would mean the units was feet.

 Hi John,

No guarantees that I got this right, but you could try adding the following
 entry to your FWTools/share/proj/epsg file:

 # Guatemala Transverse Mercator
 001234 +proj=tmerc +x_0=50.00 +y_0=0 +lon_0=-90.5 +lat_0=0
 +k=0.999800 +ellps=WGS84 +datum=WGS84 +to_meter=0.3048006096012192 +no_defs

Then you should be able to acces it by using EPSG:001234 in your -s_srs
 parameters.
