Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Choice of Events Calendering system
Just to follow up on this item. It looks like the choice of an events calendar comes down to 2 choices: the Silverstripe Calendar plugin and the Google Calendar. You can see an example of the Silverstripe Calendar module[1] and you can now see a working version of a Google calendar set into a CMS site that I run[2] (the calendar is set into the page through iframe). For the Google Calendar version move to the later months into 2012. The calendar is on my Early Music News website and will have another 200 or more events input in the next couple of months. You can filter the type of events by clicking on the down arrow next to the menu item Agenda. Advantages of the Silverstripe Calendar module * ical support * events are stored on our servers * our website devs can create filters when needed * events descriptions as long as required * rss feed Disadvantages of the Silverstripe Calendar * creation of events require knowledge of SilverStripe admin use, members interested in inputting events need some training * creation of filters need website devs involvement * module has not been updated since 22 Jan 2009 [3] * risk of module not working if new version of SilverStripe is installed (this is dependent on whether SilverStripe devs make sure the calendar module is compatible with the newest version) * the traditional calendar view does not show short titles of events through a popup window Advantages of the Google Calendar * ical support * Google Calendar use is known by many users and getting help for inputting events from interested TDF/LibreOffice members would be easy to find. Sharing calendar admin is easily done. * integration of other ical Google Calendars is easily done * users can easily integrate the Google events calendar into their own Google calendars. Updates to events are then updated directly into the users' Google calendars * events are stored on Google Calendar servers, they take care of backups and stability. Less work for our website devs. (this could also be a disadvantage) * events filters can easily be set through the creation of sub-albums and scripts are automatically created by Google Calendar * you can publish sub-albums on different pages if you wish * the traditional calendar view shows short titles of events (more if your web page view is large) * works on Thunderbird-Lightning Calendar which is often quoted as a good combination to compete with MSO (LibreOffice + Thunderbird + Lightning) Disadvantages of Google Calendar * events are stored on Google Calendar servers out of our control * For traditional calendar view: events descriptions should be kept a little short. If too long, the popup events windows have no scrollbars (You have to plan your text strategically if you want to use the traditional calendar view). If using other views, the descriptions can be as long as required. * no rss feed Cheers, Marc [1] http://www.libreoffice.org/about-us/events [2] http://www.musiqueancienne.org/index.php?module=contentfunc=viewpid=11 [3] http://www.silverstripe.org/event-calendar/ -- Marc Paré m...@marcpare.com http://www.parEntreprise.com parEntreprise.com Supports OpenDocument Formats (ODF) parEntreprise.com Supports http://www.LibreOffice.org -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-marketing] List of OOo bugs fixed in LibreOffice
Hello everyone, Since we're entering the bughunting season, Eike and Cor have come up with a list of bugs that were reported in the old OOo bugzilla and that got fixed inside LibreOffice. It might be good, marketing wise, to have this list and share it. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=grepq=i%23 http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=grepq=%23i Merry Bug Hunting, er, Christmas everyone, -- Charles-H. The queries list all commits that involve some issue from OpenOffice(.org). But among those, there are also issues that have been fixed in OOo, or issues that represent features that were developed by OpenOffice-developers. So all, please clean up the lists before spreading as if it are all old bugs, fixed in LibreOffice. That's only true for part of them. Sorry that I omitted to finish this earlier / expressing myself clearly enough in advance.
