Ok then, I registered at cpdn and setup LibO Crunchers team record and
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/boinc updated with links to all the
project home pages now in addition to team pages.

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] A LibreOffie team for BOINC

2019-06-20 Thread Sophia Schröder
I was a long time volunteer to SETI and other projects the days back.

Was part of rechenkraft.net and later created a firm-internal team
(which both no longer exist, team and firm).

So, yes, creating a team wherever is not the challenge, but you are the
hero brought that theme up here again. ;-)

Climateprediction.net would be a good addition - IDK if I have to do that

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] A LibreOffie team for BOINC

2019-06-17 Thread Drew Jensen
To close out this thread.

The page on the wiki has been setup and the BOINC project team records have
been updated to reference it as the team home page.

The folks at World Community Grid have been very nice about resharing, from
the WCG official twitter account, my twitter postings about the team.

After talking with a fellow at WCG the idea would be to host two team
challenges a year, in close step with the TDF release 6 mos release
schedule.
Presently, am planning on setting up the first Semi-Annual LibreOffice
Release, Libo Crunch hosted, team challenge on the WCG service to coincide
with the LibreOffice 6.3 Release.

Will follow with details on that in a separate email thread, likely next
week.

Best wishes,

Drew

[libreoffice-marketing] A LibreOffie team for BOINC

2019-06-05 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

First - this is of course not a TDF official team.

BOINC, I'm guessing many of you know what this is. A distributed system
where people can dedicate some CPU/GPU cycles from their computers for the
computation needs of certain academic projects. For those who do not some
details available here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/

BOINC supports creation of teams and these teams can if they choose take
part in challenge contests with other teams. It is all for bragging rights
and a way to have some fun while doing something worthwhile.

So - a few years back (2012) I setup a BOINC Wide team named LibO
Crunchers. I then did pretty much nothing to promote it, but kept at least
one computer (a netbook running 24/7) hooked up and working on projects
through about 2017, at which time I retired the machine and kind of forgot
about it.

Very recently, realizing the team was still registered with a couple of
projects at BOINC setup on another machine and started it 'crunching
numbers' on tasks again.

I would like to do something I didn't do back in 2012 and try to actually
generate some interest in getting other folks to join up.  To that end;
First, I would would like to use a page on the TDF wiki as a Team website,
which is why this email - I won't do that if folks would rather I didn't.

The BOINC team was registered with the following options;
Name: LibO Cruncers for LibreOffice boosters.
Type: Non Profit Organization
Location: International

Participation by individuals and teams can be reflected through badges
issued by the BOINC network. There are multiple statistic systems which
offer this service each supports only a subset of languages and subsets of
academic instiutiions. The LibO team is registered with three stat systems:
BOINCStats (UC Berkley)
https://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/team/detail/b95b8895d166ef3b5237b05396bad08d

Free-DC (US)
https://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=teambycpid=LibO+Crunchers

SETIBZH (Europe) https://statsbzh.boinc-af.org/ This team registration
seems to have lapsed, will reconnect that.

Anyway, that was way more text then I intended to write. The question is
about using a wiki page to tie it all together.

Thanks and best wishes,

Drew
