As an - up to now - silent reader of this list I have to agree on the
horse not being distinguishable enough.

There's already a branding page on the wiki now and I really like the
logo and the guidelines (proposed?) ober there:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Branding

The only thing I could imagine would be a logo-variation with the
paper-plane. Perhaps the plane could "fly" through the "O" in the
LibreOffice-logo posted on the Wiki? I think that'd make it a great
graphical enhancement for t-shirts and stuff like that without making
the official logo unrecognisable.

It does for me. The plane is paper, which I associate with documents.
(Ideally, the paper would have the TDF triangle in one corner, however.)
The plane also conveys a certain sense of ease of use (light, flying).
It also conveys a sense of irreverent freedom, as these are thrown in
class. So to me, 01 is the best of the 3 options, and it has some
potential.

I can't really see the winged horse in 02 or 03 very well. I can't tell
which way the head is facing, for example. I agree with David, it isn't
likely to scale well. I'm not a fan of imaginary animals, either, I
guess. It gives me a sense of "LibO will succeed when horses fly."

For any of the three, I think TDF would be better as expanded to "The
Document Foundation," using the full width under the LibreOffice logo.

For me, the paper plane does not project any associations that I can
connect with LibO.

The same applies for the winged horse, plus that image could easily
become difficult to distinguish at small sizes (such as a favicon, for
instance). Difficult to produce derivative images from it...

I'd love to see something more colorful, enticing and attractive to
the eye. Something that stands out more.

Plus, IMHO, there's enormous benefit to be had from creating a mascot
to be our ambassador, that can easily be turned into derivative images
and animations. Some kind of friendly character like Linux's Tux...

Just my 0.2 cents... :-)

Res: [libreoffice-marketing]LibO marketing? [was: t-shirts ...]

2010-10-18 Thread Lucas Filho
Hello,

I did some tests with the name and logo images for LibreOffice.

Look here:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_hohWhG7m3yw/TL0CER52n8I/AbE/0r3EEOQqPc0/s640/libo_test.png

Option 01 shows a paper airplane to give the impression of lightness (we want a
lot in this new phase of OpenOffice). It also conveys simplicity.

Option 02 provides a winged horse. The winged horse is synonymous with
immortality, and as we're talking about Open Source thought the idea of the
horse who identifies more.
LibreOffice used the name but has the symbol next to the name of the TDF.
The image of the horse is strength, determination, agility, while the wings are
lightness, something subtle.

Option 03 is a reading of 02 with option "Libo". I particularly liked most of
this option.

About the image of the winged horse, its creator is a person who works with
tattoos and uses BrOffice (OpenOffice in Brazil) and was very happy to have
your
design as our logo. If approved this design, we will obtain the same CC license
to use the design.

You could call this new character LibO...

Res: [libreoffice-marketing]LibO marketing? [was: t-shirts ...]

2010-10-14 Thread Lucas Filho
Hello,

I think by the translation of the name "LibreOffice" in other languages may
seem
too simple a name and do not sharpen the curiosity. Here in Brazil, translating
to have all 15 characters: O. And the name does not bring any "sigh."

See that "Google" is a phrase that has a sweet sound in pronunciation. It is
easy to remember and regardless of language used in any country.

"Libo" would have the same effect in all languages regardless of the
translation. The sound of it is soft, brings more "magic" to the software.

Could be matched up in the logo. Highlighting rows and Libo "LibreOffice.

I'll make a suggestion and soon will offer to show my words better.

Looks good, but if we were to put it, just as an example, on a t-shirt
it would almost need a slogan so that people could easily guess what it
is. For example, I could picture it on a t-shirt or letter head with the
slogan "A_Suite_Deal.com" or something like that that would lead people
back to the LibreOffice.org site.
