Did you originally log in with the OpenID though -- i am pretty sure
that is the only way to create an account.

I am playing with some changes to the login screen on the wordpress
instance that would only allow login via openID, to make the magazine in
line with other Fedora applications.

Hrm. I'm going to disagree here. We have a wide and diverse community
that (I feel) benefits from having content for contributors as well as
users on Fedora Magazine.

I guess my question here is, if I come to Fedora Magazine with a
contributor-focused article - is it going to be turned away? Traditional
publishing structures have value, but we're also lacking the same
incentives (e.g. money) for writing content that a publication like
Linux Pro Magazine has.

Is the focus being proposed here going to lead to more or less material
being written about Fedora?

Planet.fpo does not serve the same function as the magazine well.

That sounds like a good idea, and Ryan is the obvious choice with all

planet.fpo is kind of a firehose. We need something a little more like
devel-announce list to planet's devel list. (Well, except planet isn't
even as focused as the devel list.)

Yeah, it may be that the hub is a solution there.

I don't think it _has_ been serving that well. I'm thinking largely of
the work to explain and socialize the various Fedora.next ideas, and
similar future things which will be coming out of the Council. Things
which we'd like everyone in the project to be aware of.

Comment (by zoltanh721):

This event has happened last year, and as we hadn't any requested
presskit, I had to compose from scratch an article to make a basic
introduction to Fedora and a little bit of .next as the chief editor of
PcWorld HU has wished. Good news that the article has successfully went to
print (although they made a little glich in the booklet), but still feel
the pain when we don't have any good centralized resource that we can give
out/share for the press people. Flyers are one thing, but when it goes to
the greater public... I really would like to cry a Fedora Marketing river.
If you would like to know what am I thinking, just locate on the net the
Firefox Press Center [https://blog.mozilla.org/press/ here], where you can
have request form to have speaker at bigger events (in Fedora view: any
ambassador would like to have someone at upcoming event or a hiring booth
at the upcoming event, or maybe I would like to have my FPL to attend, or
RH HR outreach people), or reviewers guide about the features (yes, we had
once talking points flyers but not anymore), you can get qualified press
quality images with right colors (instead of hunting from the net or
making your own), and fast facts are summarizing cool things about the
product and you can clearly have the leaders small bio, or contacts that
maybe you can interview So, how can I help, or where we begin, because
I really feel the need to have .Next Marketing, and Press Center.

I was just wondering if we really need this kind of introduction (there a

You are working about flyer for each product, maybe an introduction still
 make sense.

 Suggestions?

Beta F22 Page Created

2015-03-12 Thread Joe Brockmeier
Hey all,

Have started the beta announcement page on the wiki:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F22_Beta_release_announcement

A keen eye will note a striking resemblance to the F22 alpha announcement.

We probably need to refine the overall "story" for the F22 release now -
the alpha announcement pretty much is a "here's a collection of
features", and by the final announcement we should really have a more
coherent story about F22 and where we're going.

Some things missing from the alpha we should highlight in beta (assuming
readiness):

* base changes in the distro
* Docker image

What are we missing?

Best,

jzb

This kind of communication is NOT okay in Fedora.

Please work out whatever issues/concerns you have in a friendly manner

I don't think this doubles the workload in my experience running
Wordpress. Most of the work is either non-duplicative anyway, like
editing or writing articles, or is nominal effort once you do it on
one site, like testing changes, plugins or upgrades and then
implementing on both sites once satisfied.

The divide is the entire point, though. The designers are finding
that a topical organization would help people find more relevant
content. And cross linking is zero friction as well.

What you're suggesting sounds like approaching the same content issues
we have on Planet (no audience definition, no relevance grouping). We
don't need to recreate those issues in the Magazine.

I'd argue planet.fpo is the contributor version and magazine is
the user version. I liked Paul's idea of having the default on the
front page being user focused content instead of all. An idea is that
the contributor focused stuff could get posted to planet via fedora
mags rss feed which links back to fedoramag, but not promoted as the
user content is.

I think youre going to get a better site overall by making a choice
rather than straddling the two audiences. There is such a dearth of
Fedora user-focused content in general I really think better to make
fedoramag for them since they need it. You could better serve
contributors with some curation on planet.fpo (display planet.fpo
curated by default?) or by getting individuals already listed on
planet to make more better posts. (And the hubs, when they are ready :) )

Re underground silo what kinds of critical contributor content are
you most concerned about? would planet.fpo not serve that content well?

If the concern is that planet posts are fleeting, could we stand up
another wp - very informal - for the contrib focused stuff... but no
front end, brand identity, or anything, just an rss feed to be slurped
into planet but the posts / comments / stats would be stored in the wp?

So, what I was going for in suggesting the user/contributor categories
kind of _is_ like having a mini separate site, like this suggestion but
with a lot less overhead both in systems administration and in blog
administration. A whole 'nother site would double the workload, and
we're largely depending on (awesome — thanks!) volunteer efforts for
this as it is.

I'm also concerned with too strong of a divide meaning that the
important contributor-focused articles end up in yet another
underground silo somewhere... we've had a hard enough time building up
the magazine as a place to look.
