Subject: Fedora Magazine badges

We currently have 3 Magazine-specific badges in the Fedora Badges
system. They are for posts with 1K, 5K and 25K pageviews.

Every few months, i click on every post with these numbers, and find the
users that need the badge. Here are the new recipients of the badges
(the full list can be seen on each individual badge page)

25K -- https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/clickbait-fedora-magazine-iii
No new users with posts over 25K

5K -- https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/clickbait-fedora-magazine-ii
Ankur "FranciscoD" Sinha
Joe Brockmeier
Matt Newsome
Josef Stříbný
Adam Williamson

1K -- https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/clickbait-fedora-magazine-i
Trupti Rajesh Kini
Sumit Bhardwaj
Kushal Das
Dan Walsh
Matt Newsome
Josef Stříbný

Please be aware that this is a manual process, so I may have missed a
post or two, or forgotten to assign a badge. Please ping me if you think
one of your posts hits one of these targets, and I will get you your badge!

Planet fedora twitter account

2015-06-16 Thread Ankur Sinha
Hiya!

I just realised we have a planetfedora twitter account. Do we have
credentials for this? The description needs to be updated a bit - still
refers to identi.ca :)

I think it isn't posting tweets on planet fedora posts any more, just
announcements from the announce list - any idea who I should speak to
about this?

Another thing - The logo in use for the account looks slightly
pixilated on my system too. We should probably use a better image?

Hi Ashutosh, I reviewed your article and I have some questions about
it.

* Did you pitch this article to anyone in the team? By "pitch," I
mean you discussed the idea for the article and the points you
wanted to cover in it with someone on the team.

* The article brings up a lot of concepts without explaining them, but
it also isn't clear whether those concepts are necessary, or if you
intended to explain them later (such as units).

* There is a much longer cheat sheet available in the Fedora wiki
which is not linked in the article. It might be worth reconsidering
the scope of the article to reference it and build on it somehow:
  https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SysVinit_to_Systemd_Cheatsheet

I've moved this article to "Draft" status so we can continue
discussing here.

Comment (by pfrields):

I think this sounds like a useful regular feature. It is important that
the articles maintain a user focus. It's easy for complicated subjects
like SCL or COPRs to become intertwined with jargon or concepts not
familiar to most users and readers. However, editors should be able to
help you and other authors tune the articles appropriately.

Hi Sumit!

First up, thanks for submitting your first post to the Fedora
Magazine. I have done a quick review of your post, and here are a
few ideas / suggestions from me. (other editors, feel free to pitch
in ideas too)

First up, i'd probably be a bit more direct and informative with the
title, instead of "Fedora 22 Intel Graphics Woes : Here's some
help"
maybe something like "Solution for graphics issues on some Intel
graphics chipsets in Fedora 22" (just a suggestion, feel free to
change and or edit too :) )

Secondly, i'd probably remove the majority of the first paragraph
and lead with the issue itself (your third paragraph) -- most people
get to the magazine via third party links, so starting with the info
they came for always works well. I'm thinking something like:
"""
Fedora 22 was [link to release annonce on fedora mag]released
recently[/link], and if you are using a Pre-Sandybridge era
Intel-based graphics chipset (For example, Intel 4 series
motherboards with G41 chipset and GMA X4500 graphics), chances are
that you might be facing graphics issues like shown in below
screenshot on Fedora 22.
[screenshot]
"""

Then after the screenshot, have your brief description of the
problem, covering the points that fedora switched to a new accel
method that doesnt work so well with older chipsets.

Then put the solution. I found the bug for this issue
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1226743) which might be
worth mentioning. And there updated kernels (kernel-4.0.5-300.fc22
and kernel-4.0.5-200.fc21) that fix this issue is already in
updates-testing, so it is probably a better solution to recommend
that people install the new package with the fix from updates
testing, or wait for the package to hit the proper repos (rather
than editing a config file that they may forget about and cause them
issues in the future.)

cheers,
ryanlerch

Just did a quick edit, and added a quick howto on getting the packages

>from updates-testing (in case the reader doesnt know how to), and added

some emphasis on the note that the workaround is a temp solution.

 Hi,
I would like to become a contributor of Fedora Magazine and regulary post
updates about new interesting projects which appeared in Copr.

For last week I selected those projects, which I would like to refer:

  https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/rvokal/pidgin-indicator/
This plugin provides an Ubuntu Indicator icon, for use in the Plasma 5
desktop environment. Plasma 5 no longer provides a general purpose
notification tray, so the standard Pidgin tray icon does not appear. The
official Ubuntu alternative is an integration with their Messaging
indicator, which consolidates status from multiple applications.

 https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/carlgeorge/umirr/
Umirr is an application for generating a geographically relative list of
mirrors. The output is designed to be parsed by the mirrorlist parameter
of yum repo configuration. It is designed to be as simple as possible. All
configuration and data is contained in simple yaml files. The app does
require geoip information to be passed to it via headers. Fortunately,
this is very easy to do in nginx.

   Community edition of RHSCL 2.0

 https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/dvratil/qt5/
Qt 5.5 RC packages
WARNING Qt 5.5 might have API/ABI changes that will break existing
 applications from Fedora repositories.

 https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/mtasaka/LXDE-next/
LXDE-next : trial update of LXDE components

 https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/mkosek/freeipa-4.2/
This is the official COPR repository for FreeIPA 4.2 releases and its
dependencies on top of dependencies already in downstream repositories.
