[Marketing] New post about vagrant-sshfs

2016-04-01 Thread Dusty Mabe
Hi all,

I wrote a new post about vagrant-sshfs and submitted it as a pitch on the
Fedora Magazine admin interface.

Can you please review it? I ask that you send any edits to me and I'll make
them. Once that is done we can
publish :)

Thanks,
Dusty

Comment (by pfrields):

 I had some thoughts on the categories. I like the majority of the
 suggestions, but I also believe Ryan as editor in chief will need to make
 the final call. Here's my proposal with slight changes:
 * capture CTA posts into Contributor Community
 * subsume HDYF into Interviews (although the series can keep its name in
 titles, just like other series)
 * eliminate comedy posts -- we can't judge how it will come off with all
 audiences, and we don't have enough articles for monotony to be an issue,
 so this is a solution in search of a problem

 == Proposed Categories, rev. 3 ==
 * '''5 Things in Fedora This Week''' (no change)
 * '''(Fedora) Contributor Community'''
  * Articles about "the happenings" across the Fedora Project that are of
 interest to the entire Fedora user community (wider audience than
 CommBlog?)
* Example: ''We're making Fedora more modular''
  * Articles relating to "calls of action" or other types of post about
 specific topics from deep inside Fedora
* Example: ''Fedora Marketing is not a spectator sport''
 * '''Events'''
  * Anything pertaining to events or real world happenings with Fedora
 (good place for Ambassadors to be engaged too…)
 * '''Hot off the press! / New in Fedora'''
  * Either name, depending on how serious we want to keep things. :)
  * For breaking news about major changes or updates about changes that
 directly impact users
 * '''Interviews'''
  * Distinctly different from How do you Fedora
  * Can contain any type of interview
* Example: ''Creating laser light shows with Fedora''
  * Includes '''How do you Fedora'''
* requires renaming existing category, can be done in the SQL trivially
 if not in the WP UI
 * '''Using software'''
  * Slug: /software
  * For how-tos / guides / walkthroughs of using software in Fedora
 * '''Using hardware'''
  * Slug: /hardware
  * For how-tos / guides / walkthroughs of using software with Fedora

 stickster / ryanlerch are the best people to make this call and weren't at

[Marketing] Re: Marketing trac #222: Publicizing "Fedora affiliates" (or groups using Fedora)

Hello everyone.

to touch base with those currently working on this to get a sense of

Thanks!

Hi James! Thanks for coming out to the meeting on Wednesday.

In terms of this ticket, I think the place we're at now is really coming
up with a list of steps or ideas about how an organization could apply
to be an "affiliate" or "friend" of Fedora.

In the meeting, we decided a good place to put this for now would be on
this page.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Affiliates_SOP

For the task, I would consider the kind of things we as Fedora would
want to highlight and show that organizations, schools, companies, or
other groups are doing and using Fedora for.

Perhaps for a school… do you offer any courses that use Fedora? How has
using Fedora and open source software impacted your students? What have
your students produced using Fedora?

Things along those lines. I would approach this like a questionnaire of
sorts that an organization would fill out. It doesn't have to be perfect
right now, but having an initial list of steps or things to consider is
a good place to start and build off of!

Hope this helps clarify. Let us know if you have further questions!

Great news: March 2016 stats were an awesome rebound from February --

Page views: +32% to 185,199 -- more than either January, February, or
March. In fact, highest since November 2015 (release of F23) and
almost as many as May 2015 (release of F22).

One notable is the first half of the month had substantially more hits
than the second half. Here was our publishing:

2016-03-01 -- Fedora's not DROWNing
2016-03-07 -- Installing KDE Plasma 5
2016-03-11 -- Cockpit overview
2016-03-12 -- 5tFTW
2016-03-14 -- Installing MATE
2016-03-16 -- ownCloud updates
2016-03-18 -- Remote depsolving
2016-03-18 -- Fedora 24 Alpha wallpaper
2016-03-21 -- GSoC in Fedora
2016-03-22 -- 5tFTW
2016-03-23 -- HDYF: Giannis Konstantinidis
2016-03-28 -- Open source/black box
2016-03-29 -- F24 Alpha release
2016-03-30 -- Files: Find recent

I would guess that the DROWN article (high visibility) and
installation took the cake here. So one thing we might think about is
steering more articles into the publishing runway that are timely, or
show people how to install and use cool things. But regardless, all
month was pretty strong, and we are on a positive trend!

This is an awesome retrospective – thanks for sharing, Paul! Seems like
the hot topic sort of articles tend to do pretty well. I'll stay alert
for any interesting topics that come across my radar.

Thanks again for putting this together!

For some reason the auto-posting didn't work. I'll work with Patrick
to find out and see if it can be fixed.

See, this was funny. :-)

q.v. recent Gmail dust-up.

Yup, I'm cool with leaving the jokes out of business & technology. If
