Re: Gnome advert for Linux User & Developer issue 102
Hi Clare, I'm cc'ing the GNOME Marketing list who can help. Can you remind us what the parameters for the advert are? Thanks! There is some limitation that we can do 'www.gnome.org/news', but not another vhost. I don't know the specifics. So for something like that you'll have to file a bug for another sysadmin to handle. It doesn't seem feasible to me (might require replicating the planet-web config on a non-Puppet server, that is pretty invasive)... -- Regards, Olav -- marketing-list mailing list marketing-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing-list

Hi, Olav Vitters wrote: > So news.gnome.org: redirect to www.gnome.org/news > but news.gnome.org/announce: show existing content? I don't think it should redirect - it should be: news.gnome.org and gnome.org/news: Aliases for same thing (no R in ModRewrite) Both point to news.gnome.org/announce via a link: "Follow project announcements", which will be what we currently have in news.gnome.org > Wouldn't that be a bit confusing? Wouldn't that be a bit confusing? PS: news.gnome.org is nothing more than a subdirectory of planet.gnome.org; same for most planet sites (though redirects are in place to ensure google only sees one thing). -- Regards, Olav -- marketing-list mailing list marketing-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing-list

Rename it to > announce.gnome.org? This is the "find a better place" part of my mail ;-) Depending on what we're willing to put on www.gnome.org/news, a good part could be simply linked from there, à la LWN (like Dave suggested). Keeping the aggregation of feeds as they appear right now somewhere (pgo/announcements/, for instance) could be a simple way for the team dealing with www.gnome.org/news to to know about potential news items. But this aggregation wouldn't be what we advertise externally.
