2013-04-23 Thread Karen Sandler
Hi Stefania,

A lot of people use Ekiga or some other similar software. There's also the
phone number if international dialing isn't expensive for you. I'm going
to be afk the first part of the day, but feel free to ask others in
#marketing to help you test whatever you get up and running with!

I tried many times but I never made that successfully. SIP is too broken
for real life use. The protocol too fragile and the networks too
unreliable. At least for me, that's discouraging enough to not even try
to take part in the phone meetings.

I found http://voicebridge.eu which provides regular landline numbers
to dial in. You can then type a number of a conference room and every
caller is place into the conference.

If the current setup works for everyone who's interested, then nothing
needs to change. If more people rather want to dial in with a regular
phone, then the service might be worth being investigated.

Cheers,

If we are able to use something like this and still have SIP (or whatever
online dialing alternative), that's great. Currently, I do not own a
regular phone number and, unfortunately, here in Brazil calls from cell
phones to regular phones are a bit expensive, especially considering a 1h
meeting.

Some donors' name missing on FoG donors list

2013-04-23 Thread Jiro Matsuzawa
Hi Marketing Team,

I am Jiro Matsuzawa.

This is just a quick note to let you know that some donors' name seem to be
missing on the list of previous donors [1]. For example, 柴田充也 (SHIBATA
Mitsuya [FAMILY Given]) is not found on the list. As far as I know, he
donated for annually adopting a hacker in 2012. You can see it on the old
page [2]. I heard directly from him about this. There might be other
missing names.

Could you please at least list Mr. Shibata's name again on the donors list?
Thanks in advance.

Re: GNOME Marketing

2013-04-23 Thread Tiffany Yau
Unfortunately I won't be able to join the marketing meeting due to a
scheduling conflict, but I’ll stay tuned in to IRC if the conversation
moves there.

These mock-ups are preliminary sketches for redesigning GNOME Love pages to
make the contribution process a little less daunting for the newcomer.

I hope to make the resources and ‘steps’ to contributing as accessible and
legible as possible.

For the GNOME Love home, I’ve placed Ryan McDougall’s *Starting your GNOME
journey* as the introductory guide. It’s currently linked in General
Advice, the fifth link on GNOMELove home:
https://live.gnome.org/GnomeLove/HowToStart%20En

I think with edited and more comprehensive copy, this guide, with its
multiple translations, can provide a better overview of advice/how-to’s for
contributing to GNOME than the current first link (Learning Your
Way/Project Tour page).

I think moving the GNOME Love Bug Tracker to the home page is also a clear
way to suggest it as a great way for newcomers to begin contributing.

The other sketch simply proposes placing a link to the GNOME Love home more
prominently on the Get Involved page, as the place to familiarize oneself
with how to begin contributing.

I’m not married to any of the designs, but I think it moves in the
direction of easing the process of first contributing.

I hope to continue delving further into the GNOME love/volunteer pages and
similarly analyze, consolidate, and restructure them to improve volunteer
capture.

Any feedback and criticisms are more than welcome!

-Tiffany
