Back in 2007, I reviewed one of Foster's earlier books, "Marxism and
Ecology: Materialism and Nature" (2000). The review can be found at
http://www.communistvoice.org/40cMarx.html. It shows the relevance of Marxism
to fighting the current environmental crisis, but it also shows the flaws in
Foster's work. (Not that Jason Moore is any better.) Foster is fond of fancy
philosophical phrases like "metabolic rift", but obscures crucial issues
brought to the fore by the environmental crisis . The subjects covered in the
review:

* The writings of Marx and Engels
* Alongside and after Marx and Engels
* Lenin and the early Soviet Union
* Stalinist and state capitalist ecocide
* Marxism and global warming
* --Not market methods, but direct regulation of production
* --Class basis of environmental destruction
* --The nature of state regulation
* --Bringing the masses into the environmental struggle
* Foster's Marxism without teeth

>From the last paragraph of the review:

"... Foster's book is harmed by the lack of the very materialism he preaches
about: it is an idealist, and even elitist, history of materialism, a
doctrine which can only really thrive when it becomes a force among the
masses.Nevertheless, his book does show that Marx and Engels were concerned
with environmental issues. ... [and] he does end up giving a certain
panorama of the views and polemics of a number of people of historical
interest. ... But what he doesn't do, despite the title of his book, is
give a picture of what Marxism really means for ecology. Foster would drown
Marxism, a revolutionary doctrine with many sharp edges, in a sea of bland,
philosophical generalities. So to actually see what Marxism says to do about
the environment today, one has to go elsewhere. "

I'd also point out that many people who vote Green aren't registered. I
voted Green last election and I was registered in other party.

I registered Democrat for the first time in 24 years last July, to vote for
Sanders tomorrow, June 7. I was a Green... still am I guess, 'cause I'm
taking a voter registration form with me to the polls tomorrow and will
fill it out and re-register Green at the polling place, after casting that
vote. I've signed the "Bernie or Bust" petition on change.org (the updated
one that states that my vote will go to Dr. Stein if the
Demo-Corporat-crats do what it's obvious they will do, as always)... I sent
that to a list of my friends and so far the score is 2 fellow signatories
to the petition and 2 old friends who will vote Clinton. One says that he
will "hate me forever if Trump wins..." ... of course he will, he's an
upper-middle-class small businessman in Sonoma County... like I read in the
collected works of Mao, people support any revolution up to the point where
it threatens their own privilege and status... and he can't see what I see
(with an income maybe 1/5th of his): Clinton IS Trump without the goofy
hair and bellicose rhetoric... same ol' same ol'... shades of '68...

Remember how the "anti-imperialist" left claimed the Panama Papers were
a conspiracy against Russia because no Americans were named as Mossack
Fonseca clients? That claim like all their others turned out to be bullshit.

I am contacting Green National Committee delegates by e-mail to try and get
them to support Amendment 835: The Economic Democracy Amendment which would
make the GP anti-capitalist.

Here is a letter that I received from one of them:

NAME DELETED,

Though this reply may open a can of worms (labelled "Further Replies"
perhaps) but I have to ask you to not to write me again. Nothing personal
or anything having to do views on 835, but I'd rather not recieve
unsolicited pleas (that should be restricted to the GPUS NC list.)

Thanks,
X

My response:

I will respect your wishes and will not contact you again, but I am sorry
that we have NC delegates who take this top-down attitude towards rank and
file Greens who have a right to voice their positions to GNC delegates.
Your office is not only for you and other delegates (the NC listserv is
only for delegates and alternates), you are accountable to the party as a
whole because your votes determine the course of the party, which is the
business of rank and file Greens.

Best Wishes.
