It should be noted that over time the Hasmonean (Maccabeean) dynasty
became very Hellenized. Later Hasmonean kings like John Hyrcanus
adopted Greek names. BTW John Hycanus was the king who
conquered the Edomites and forcibly converted them to Judaism.
Later on when the Romans decided that they had enough of
the Hasmoneans, they placed Edomite princes (the Herods)
on the throne of Judea.
