[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: Modelling BBR’s Interactions with Loss-based Congestion Control

2020-02-03 Thread Mirjam Kuehne
Dear colleagues,

BBR has rapidly become a major player in Internet congestion control.
BBR’s fairness or friendliness to other connections has recently come
under scrutiny as measurements from multiple research groups have shown
undesirable outcomes when BBR competes with traditional congestion
control algorithms (CCAs).

In this research Ranysha Ware, PhD student at Carnegie Mellon
University, developed a model capturing BBR’s behaviour in competition
with loss-based CCAs:

[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: How Pingable are the Pingables?

2016-04-05 Thread Mirjam Kuehne
Dear colleagues,

We look at how the "pingable:" and "ping-hdl:" attributes have been
adopted in the last five years and how reachable the pingable addresses
registered in the RIPE Database are when pinged from RIPE Atlas.

Spoiler alert: It could be better.

Please find the details on RIPE Labs:

[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: Researching F-root Anycast Placement Using RIPE Atlas

2015-10-14 Thread Mirjam Kuehne
Dear colleagues,

Please find a new article on RIPE Labs:

https://labs.ripe.net/Members/ray_bellis/researching-f-root-anycast-placement-using-ripe-atlas

In order to expand the reach of F-root, Ray Bellis looked at where
queries to F-root are coming from and where it would make most sense to
place new nodes. As a first step, Ray looked at the existing nodes to
see how they behave and if there is anything that can be improved. He
used RIPE Atlas to do this.

[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: Real-time BGP Monitoring with Isolario and BGPlay

2015-10-06 Thread Mirjam Kuehne
Dear colleagues,

Please find a new article on RIPE Labs:

https://labs.ripe.net/Members/alessandro_improta/real-time-bgp-monitoring-with-isolario-and-bgplay

The Isolario project introduces a new concept of Route Collectors to
devise real-time services and attract new BGP data sources. Thanks to
the integration of BGPlay, the project provides new interesting
troubleshooting tools to monitor BGP routes in real-time.

[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: Improving RIPE Atlas Coverage. What Networks are Missing?

2015-07-02 Thread Mirjam Kuehne

Dear colleagues,

In this article we compare RIPE Atlas deployment against user population
estimates provided by APNIC to see what eyeball networks are missing out
on RIPE Atlas probes:

[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: Measuring Countries and IXPs in the SEE Region

2015-04-24 Thread Mirjam Kuehne

Dear colleagues,

In this post we look at 10 countries in South East Europe and see how we
can use RIPE Atlas to get a sense of routing and the interconnectedness
of networks in these countries. This is the longer version of a
lightning talk Vesna Manojlovic gave at the recent SEE 4 meeting:

[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: Amsterdam Power Outage as Seen by RIPE Atlas

2015-03-30 Thread Mirjam Kuehne

Dear colleagues,

As you might have heard, there was a power outage last week Friday in
the north of The Netherlands, a country with a very high density of RIPE
Atlas probes. This density provides us with some interesting data and
visualisation. You can find more details on RIPE Labs:

[mat-wg] New on RIPE Labs: Visualising RIPE Atlas Anchor Measurements

2015-03-17 Thread Mirjam Kuehne
Dear colleagues,

Salim Gasmi, one of the RIPE Atlas anchor hosts, visualised the
measurements collected by the RIPE Atlas anchor. This monitoring page is
publicly available and allows to analyse topology changes and helps
debugging network issues. Please find more details on RIPE Labs:

This new RIPE Labs article describes how RIPE Atlas probes and anchors
maintain their clocks, and how accurate these clocks are. We also plan
to make the NTP measurements we describe here available as an additional
