This is a mystery that's been plaguing some of us using MacOS, zsh, and
possibly oh-my-zsh. Do any of these apply to you?

It is even worse as the user menu scripts all yield "The shell is
already running a command"

Before bind a key to another action you should unbind it.
f1 key is bound to for Help action.
ctrl-f is bound to Right action in the command line, which is input line.

Please create ~/.config/mc/mc.keymap with following content:

~/.config/mc/mc.keymap is a link to mz own keymap

[filemanager]

This alone was the game changer. Nothing else necessary. Now everything
works perfectly.

Instead of [filemanager] my keymap had [main]. Maybe from an older mc
version.

# unbind a key (was: Help = f1)
Help =
# bind f1 to the new action
HotList = f1
# bind ctrl-f to the new action
Find = ctrl-f

[input]
# unbind ctrl-f (was: Right = right; alt-right; ctrl-f)

I have removed all additional keys, making Left = left, Right = right etc.

Right = right; alt-right

Unfortunately, after that ctrl-f will not work in all input lines.

What would I try to achieve now with ctrl-f in input lines?

Thanks a lot for making my keys work again.

A bit more investigation shows:

Hitting Enter on an executable, after the usual "Do you really ...",
yields "The shell is already running a command". The same happens

with other files, for example *.html, which would invoke firefox.

Furthermore, hitting ctrl-o makes mc disappear as usual, but the
subshell prompt is only displayed after a command has been executed or,
simply, the Enter key has been hit.

keymap problem with 4.8.27

2021-11-10 Thread Henning

Part of the keys are mine, part are not.
Especially I'm unable to prevent f1 to call the internal Help. I had
banned it to f20 because I never use it. Instead I Use f1 to invoke the
hotlist becaus ctrl-\ not usable with german keyboard layout.

Also, I invoked search with ctrl-f because alt-? is not usable here.
But it doesn't work any more.

I replaced every keymap file (in /etc/mc, /root/.config/mc and
/usr/share/mc) with a link to my keymap and also copied default.keymaps

out of the way, but to no avail.

So, currently I am changing keymap.c to use my keys. Of course this
shouldn't be necessary.

P.S. I really appreciate your work on mc. I came to mc directly from DOS
Norton Commander n the end of the 90s and have it used ever since in
whatever Linux/Unix installation. It is, together with bash and sed one
of the programmes I always ensure to have and I always compile myself.

Quit anyway. Clear line on paste.

2021-11-10 Thread Henning

Good morning,

since 4.8.27 on exit I'm getting the popup "The shell is still active.
Quit anyway?"

This wasn't the case with 4.8.23, which I used before. And this is
obviously not covered by the exit related option.

Also, this is although I haven't used the shell.

Is there something I can do besides waiting for the next release?

Another issue:

in dialogues, when I start typing (e.g. the target line in a Copy or
Move dialogue) the line is cleared before the typed character is
inserted. This is, however, not the case, when I paste something. I have
to hit the space and backspace keys to empty the line and then paste.

I would really prefer the line to be cleared automatically.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 4.8.23: pulldown menu items can't be accessed with key

2019-06-26 Thread Henning

I recompiled 4.8.22 - there the enter key in the pulldown menues works
as expected.

GNU Midnight Commander 4.8.22
Built with GLib 2.54.3
Using the S-Lang library with terminfo database
With builtin Editor
With subshell support as default
With support for background operations
With mouse support on xterm
With multiple codepages support
Virtual File Systems: cpiofs, tarfs, sfs, extfs, ftpfs, fish
Data types: char: 8; int: 32; long: 32; void *: 32; size_t: 32; off_t: 64;

the output of 4.8.23:

GNU Midnight Commander 4.8.23

With builtin Editor

With support for background operations

Data types: char: 8; int: 32; long: 32; void *: 32; size_t: 32; off_t: 64;

The configure switches for both:

--prefix=/usr
--disable-nls
--disable-doxygen-doc
--disable-doxygen-dot
--with-gnu-ld
--without-x

The output of uname -a:

CYGWIN_NT-6.3 Taox 3.1.0s(0.338/5/3) 2019-06-05 18:09 i686 Cygwin

Any proposals what I could post/do to further investigate this?

Thanks, Henning

I deleted all previous source trees, copied out of the way all binaries,

However, its not a problem as hitting the hotkeys works.
Also, in the next days I'm going to build 4.8.23 on my linux box.

In the pulldown menues the key doesn't work as expected. Menu
items can only be accessed with the letter keys. Instead, enter be-
haves exactly like down-arrow. This is valid for mc and mcedit.

Thanks for your work.
