Hi Laurent,

Your help is much appreciated! If you don't get a reply soon, I think it
would be better to create an issue in the Fedora tracker with a patch
attached, so that it is not forgotten; I know that he's also very busy now
at his new $dayjob...

To provide best experience for the users, you should add the equivalent of
libx11-dev to BuildRequires and build --with-x.

I just checked Fedora 24 package, it still uses --without-x and --
enable-vfs-mcfs

Hi Yuri,

It’s there historically from the package used in Fedora which is the
base of the one I use.
BuildDeps are:
BuildRequires:  glib2-devel >= 2.26.0 e2fsprogs-devel slang-devel
gpm-devel groff
BuildRequires:  aspell-devel libssh2-devel >= 1.2.5

I can get rid of --without-x if you want.
I just checked Fedora 24 package, it still uses --without-x and --
enable-vfs-mcfs

Best,
Laurent.

Why without X? It's only needed in BuildDeps, if installed on a system w/o
X it will still work, because X stuff is dlopen'ed only when available.

Hi Yuri, all.

First, thanks to all of you for that release.

I’ve updated « my » packages on OpenSuSe Build Service to 4.8.17
for the following distros:

CentOS and Scientific Linux 6 i586 and x86_64.
CentOS and Scientific Linux 7 x86_64.
Fedora 20, 21, 22, i586 and x86_64.

I’ve used official tar.xz package, and mc was built with the
following options:
--with-screen=slang \
--enable-charset \
--without-x \
--with-gpm-mouse \
--disable-rpath \
--enable-vfs-smb \
--enable-vfs-sftp \
--enable-aspell

You can get packages here:

mc/mc

Thanks,
Laurent.

yes, thanks for the efforts to maintain mc. syntax highlighting was really

Re: Midnight Commander 4.8.17 released

2016-05-08 Thread Mike

Thank you very much.

IMHO, the way things are going at this point are perfect for this time
and place: slowly working out bugs and making minor tweaks and improvements.

Until something changes and the move to 5.0.0 series becomes clear
(likely some major change in an underlying dependency, or the adoption
of that mc2 scripting aspect), I think we should continue on this
(glacial) incremental path, bumping micro-versions every few months, and
just seeing where this takes us.

Hi,

I'm glad to announce the availability of mc-4.8.17!

This is a maintenance release that includes bugfixes for a bunch of very
annoying bugs that surfaced in the previous version (FISH, patchfs,
segfault and tcsh detection on FreeBSD) and brings several new features.

Copy & move operations now use an adaptive buffer, just like the
corresponding coreutils commands, which will significantly improve the
performance (hopefully!) for many of our users. Move to the new
high-level mouse API has not only simplified our code, but also resolved
a number of long-standing mouse bugs. Finally, the new panel centered
scrolling mode is weird, but fun; try it out!

For a detailed list of changes since the last version, please refer to
the release notes.

As usual, I would like to thank tireless Andrew Borodin, and our
contributors Andreas Mohr, Mooffie and many others for making this
release possible. We still have an enormous backlog of tickets and
patches, but we are working on it as time permits, one patch at a time.

Have a great summer break everyone!
