We are aware of this. We would love to use file -z instead of file
to use type for most cases, but sadly file is buggy with respect to
bzip[2] files. So we do need some work arounds until file gets fixed. A
real solution is on the TODO for 4.6.2 or 4.7.0 (maybe not written down
there yet, but discussed as such on IRC and on this list I believe).

Hello,

 This patch prevent displaying log files (like log.1) from /var/log 
 directory as a man pages. It's just a workaround, I'm working on the 
 better solutions but it will take me some more time.

Maybe a more solid path would be to use the `type' functionality in
mc.ext.in to flag troff files.

Or extend the script to use `file' and if it matches `English Text' or
does not match `troff' not treat it as a man page.
