Job Title: Teradata Developer

Location: Atlanta GA

Duration: 6+Months Contract With Possible Extension



*ROLE: Teradata Developer*



*Job responsibilities: *

Responsible for the design, development, implementation, support and
execution of Teradata SQL queries, stored procedures, macros and other
database objects in analytic and active data warehousing applications
within the Data Services Team.  Responsible for performing peer review and
testing of code built by other developers on the team and will adhere to
all quality control, coding and testing standards as defined by the team.

Maintains key working business knowledge of all data stores to include but
not limited to Teradata operational data store, data warehouse, and
dependent data marts.

Model and develop databases and data structures to satisfy business
processes and technical requirements.

Solve complex requirements using expert-level SQL techniques such as OLAP
windowing functions, derived tables, temporal selects, triggers, queue
tables,

Design, implement and maintain code in development, test and production
environments. Design solutions to support systematic promotion between
environments.

Perform advanced thought leadership and work writing, modifying, tuning and
debugging database join and partitioned indexes, simple and complex
queries, stored procedures, views, user-defined functions and other
database objects to meet ADW and decision support SLAs.

Identify complex data patterns and inconsistencies through data analysis
and data mining.

Monitor databases using tools like SQL Sentry Viewpoint, DBQL and AmpUsage
to propose solutions to identify and prevent deadlocks , blockings and
evaluate performance tuning results.

Assist with data integration exercises like data mapping and migration.

Follow project specifications and corporate coding standards and policies.

Creates deployment plans to promote code and database objects from
development environments to higher environments.

Ensures proper configuration management and change controls are implemented.

Provide technical assistance and cross training to other team members and
to users for generation of adhoc SQL and reports.

Design and implement technology best practices, guidelines and repeatable
processes.

Prepares and presents status updates in an Agile environment.

Collaborate with Product Owners and Scrum Masters  to interpret feature
requests and develop services in and iterative design/build/test cycles
using an Agile development principles and practices

Performs other duties as required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or
related field and four to six years of relevant work experience; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.

Application development experience (preferred)

Requires experience and understanding of multiple programming languages and
applicable applications.

Teradata Certifications are a plus.

Position Description:

Direct responsibility for the design, maintenance, and support of Data
Warehouse Systems. The developer requires a high level of analytical and
creative skills and an in-depth knowledge of database structure, data
warehouse configuration, methodology, design, and modeling. The developer’s
typical duties includes but not limited to designing and building data
warehouses, designing ETL architectures and procedures, performing
analysis, SQL scripting, tuning and optimization on very large
(multi-terabyte) databases, managing capacity planning and performance
analysis, working with application developers to design and develop
database objects and structures according to project specifications,
addressing data quality issues with users, vendors and management,
analyzing organizational data requirements and creating logical and
physical Data Flow Diagrams and Entity Relationship Diagrams using tools
such as Visio and Erwin. Must be able to work with and within a
cross-functional development, QA and production team.

Skills Required:

· Effectively develops complex Teradata SQL coding (use of temp/volatile
tables, complex joins, etc.)

· Effectively performs - ETL on large data volumes while addressing out of
spool conditions, query optimization, etc.) , requirements analysis, data
profiling, data/information research, data/information analyses, data
cleansing including identification of data anomalies, post load data/load
quality checks

· Experienced with dimensional database concepts, relational database
concepts, data integration initiatives, data movement initiatives

· Possesses strong analytical thinking skills

· Effectively creates clear and concise documentation, produces source to
target maps, understands and validates metrics

· Effectively determines project scope and priorities, plans and
coordinates tasks across multiple teams, determines, manages, and escalates
risk, multi-tasks (i.e., works on multiple tasks/same project and/or
multiple projects), works in a team environment, communicates and liaisons
with non-technical personnel (e.g., customers, stakeholders, etc.) and

Work Experience Desired: 

· 2 years experience designing, building and deploying solutions in a

SSA’s Data warehouse environment and primary tools are as follows;

· Teradata 12

The vast majority of requests require working with members from;

· SSA business units (requestors)

· Project managers

· Business analysts

· reviewing project requirements

· documenting and presenting design solutions

· constructing solutions

· unit and integration testing of solutions

· certification and user acceptance testing of solutions

Other Skills:

n  Outstanding verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate 
equally effectively with business and technical team members

n  Excellent team skills

n  Excellent written communications skills

n  Must be self motivated working with a sense of urgency

n  Experience working with a project manager to formulate and use project plans 
and associated documents

n  Experience with retail data (suppliers, products, promotions, coupons,

n  Experience with Microsoft C, C++, C#, .Net, and VBScript preferred but not 
required
