[MCN-L] Visitors survey kiosks - looking for good examples
Hello, We are re-designing our visitors survey kiosk and we are looking for good examples. The physical station is already built. We are thinking about the callouts: - What language and graphics will get us more responses? - What passerby visitors should see when the kiosk is sleeping? If you have a good example at your museum, we would love to see a photo. BTW - we want to develop a short laser light show that will run when the visitor completes the survey. We want kids to ask their parents to fill the survey so they also will get their lightshow. [MCN-L] Small university museums: social media and blogging policies
Dear Jesse, I work at a small university museum too and we've been using social media for quite some time now. We don't have an official social media policy. We use Facebook, Twitter and a few other platforms for experimental science communication, and if something feels right, we usually just do it. The response is not always impressive, but almost never negative. Have a look at some of the accounts posted below (although most posts are in Danish) and I'll be happy to answer questions and discuss further with you :) www.museion.ku.dk (our blog/website) www.facebook.com/medicalmuseion www.twitter.com/medicalmuseion Best regards, Daniel Noesgaard Senior Curator, MS University of Copenhagen Faculty of Health Sciences The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research ? But, we'd like to do it right - or at least be as informed as possible about what to consider before we jump in. Does anyone have a social media policy or draft of one they would be willing to share? Or, is there a resource on the web for museums and social media? Specifically small university museums perhaps. Thanks, Jesse

Hi Jesse, Smithsonian has a central social media policy available online (under Smithsonian Directives): http://www.si.edu/About/Policies A list of government and non-profit social media policies, dating back to 2009, is also available here: http://socialmediagovernance.com/policies.php?f=5 You may also want to post any questions to the #musesocial (Museums and Social Media) group on Twitter, or @MuseumCN would be happy to post the question for you and you can follow the hashtag for the answers. The group is very active and extremely generous in providing helpful resources and advice based on their experience. This group also has a wiki where resources and a schedule of upcoming online discussions about museums and social media are posted: http://museums-social-media.wikispaces.com/. I hope this is helpful, Vicki Victoria Portway Head of Web New Media Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum 4th and Independence Ave, SW Washington, DC 20560-0316 tel: 202.633.2478 | email: portwayv at si.edu web: airandspace.si.edu social: airandspace.si.edu/connect On 17/06/2013, at 21.49, Jesse Henderson wrote: Hi everyone, We're looking to kick start our social media presence (yes, we're a little behind).
