Subject: [MCN-L] New physical interactive - Eliana Rachel Sully Cohen

Hi everyone:

On July 7th, following 40 weeks +42 hours of preparation and labor, I released
a new physical interactive, which we've named Eliana. Eliana was originally
8lbs, 5 oz and 19.5 long, but, being interactive and now
5 weeks old, her specs have since changed significantly. She also has an awful
lot of hair, and we're not sure which programmer is responsible for that. Since
it's a feature, and not currently a bug, we're calling the hair a success.

I know many of you have been subjected to my snarky updates and photos on ye
olde Facebook, but since I have so many friends and colleagues in the musetech
and registrar communities, I wanted to let the rest of you know about my latest
project.

Cheers,

~Peria

Yo All,

Does anyone have a list of handy apps that can turn a basic html page on an
iPad into a locked display app.
I'm thinking kiosk-mode/lockdown thangs.

This is for a v. simple web page displaying content in a gallery with the same
web page also used on the live web. Any links on the open web, should not work
on the locked-down gallery display of the same page: no swiping, no access to
native OS shortcuts etc.

The main iPad buttons can be assumed to be physically inaccessible.

Happy to summarise to lists, or take direct offline private comments, etc

[MCN-L] iPad browser locking apps

2014-08-21 Thread hopl...@hillmanncarr.com
Accessibility controls in iPad can lock the iPad to one application. I have
used this in Kiosks to run a single app. It?s meant for teachers and parents,
but it is adaptable and can be used to do things Kiosk Pro can?t? and vice
versa, so consider both.

Actually, that?s a good point. We use Kiosk Pro and then turn on
accessibility controls to lock the iPad to that one application and
disable the menu/power buttons. This is an alternative to using something
like Apple Configurator.

[MCN-L] The Metropolitan Museums of Arts Information Security Survey Results

2014-08-21 Thread Sonzogni, Adam
Thanks you to the MCN list for being a great resource for this kind of
knowledge gathering and a big Thank you for those who participated in our
Information Security survey, this gave us a better understanding of where we,
as an industry, and what The Met should be working towards.

We received 16 responses from a variety of organizations: 12 art museums (3
from NYC), 2 Museums with collections not focused on art, and 2 universities.
We noted only 6 respondents had a single person who held individual
responsibility for Enterprise wide Information security. The majority had this
responsibility shared across several people while 4 organizations ultimate
responsibility fell on the head of the Information Technology (IT) organization.
Those individually responsible held variations of titles including Director of
IT security, Information Security Officer and Network Security Manager. And
they reported directly to a Chief Information Officer (CIO) or Vice President
(VP) of IT.

In regards to who manages accounts and permissions it was an even split, 8 of
the responses indicated they had dedicated teams or individuals which handled
these duties (these teams ranged from 1 member to 5 members) while the other
half indicated these duties fell across several teams, most typically the help
desk and then each appropriate application support team.

When there was an individual or dedicated team their title ranged from Systems
Administrator to Director of IT and they reported to a CIO/Director of IT or
Director of Finance, dedicated teams reported to Information Security Officers
(ISO), CIO's or IT Managers. In organizations where it was handled by help desk
and application teams they reported to IT managers.
All respondents indicated that IT plays a role in audits and Payment Card
Industry (PCI) compliance. There was little elaboration as to whether they
simply support internal audits or have regular audits of their IT process,
procedures and operations. 4 respondents stated this responsibility falls to
their dedicated security headcount being the prime responsibility holder. All
respondents assist with PCI compliance, but the primary responsibility for PCI
lays with a Finance headcount.
14 organizations use external security resources ranging from assistance with
PCI compliance to providing additional manpower or total log monitoring and
firewall management.

Thanks Again,
Adam

***Please excuse the cross-posting***

RDF Application Profiles and Tools for Metadata Validation and Quality
Control
*Half-day Special Session @ DC-2014*
*Thursday, 9 October 2014 - 1:30-5:00*

===
*LOCATION:* Austin, Texas, USA
*VENUE:* ATT Executive Education Conference Center (
http://www.meetattexas.com/)
*SESSION HOMEPAGE: *
http://dcevents.dublincore.org/IntConf/index/pages/view/rdfAP
*CONFERENCE WEBSITE:* http://purl.org/dcevents/dc-2014
*REGISTRATION: *
http://dcevents.dublincore.org/index.php/IntConf/index/pages/view/registration-2014
 *(Thursday day-rate option available)*
===

*Session Abstract: *

This session will focus on establishing requirements for implementing
Application Profiles from the perspective of software developers. In
particular, our interests include the requirements necessary for performing
validation and quality checks within tools, and the extent to which
established and developing constraint languages remain valuable in our
context.

*Scope and Motivation: *

Over the last fourteen years, the DCMI community has focused much of its
efforts on the development of Application Profiles as a means to enable
reuse of properties across multiple schemas, as well as constraint
languages to express those profiles. Building on the DC-2013 special
session Application Profiles as an Alternative to OWL Ontologies
http://dcevents.dublincore.org/IntConf/index/pages/view/APaltOO, this
session will explore the requirements for defining and implementing
Application Profiles from the perspective of software developers and other
implementers. In particular, our session will focus on the requirements
necessary for performing validation and quality checks within tools, and
the extent to which established and developing constraint languages, such
as Description Set Profiles and Shape Expressions/RDF Data Shapes, remain
valuable in our context.

*Confirmed Panelists:*

   - Mark Matienzo (mark at matienzo.org), DPLA, USA (Facilitator)
   - Kevin Ford, Library of Congress, USA
   - Thomas Johnson, Oregon State University, USA
   - Eric Miller, Zepheira, USA
   - David Wood, 3 Round Stones, USA

*Open Questions Guiding the Session:*

   1. How can Application Profile-based validation provide meaningful
feedback to a user editing a record or set of statements?
   2. From the perspective of an implementor, what do we mean by
validation, and does this mean different things from the perspective of
implementers building user-facing tools or automated systems to perform
   these checks?
   3. How are existing constraint languages valuable to implementers,
particularly if the tools we are building cannot interpret or act on them
   natively?
   4. Should we prioritize developing tools that can interpret serialized
constraint definitions, or ensuring that our tools and systems can
serialize their constraints into one of these languages?

*Special Session Sponsors:*

   - Digital Public Library of America (DPLA)
   - DCMI Technical Board
