In its twelfth year as a joint program between the Art Libraries Society of
North America (ARLIS/NA) and the Visual Resources Association Foundation
(VRAF), SEI 2105 will be held at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign
from June 9-12, 2015.

SEI (Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management) is
an intensive workshop featuring a curriculum that specifically addresses the
requirements of today's professional, including hands-on and lecture modules.
Expert instructors cover intellectual property rights, the digital lifecycle,
metadata and cataloging, essential tools of image management, digital
preservation, and uses of images in digital humanities.

The SEI curriculum is especially suited to information professionals new to the
field and those currently enrolled in library schools who wish to gain image
management training, as well as more experienced professionals eager to
respond to fast-changing technological advancements and job requirements.
Individuals with a range of professional roles have benefited from past SEIs,
including visual resources professionals, university and public librarians,
archivists, and museum professionals responsible for image rights and
reproductions. Recent graduates have noted: “SEI was enormously helpful, since
I’ve never actually worked in visual resources”; and “. . . useful in showing
me the range of the field, and what I might encounter in a different position.”

More information about SEI, including curriculum and instructors, can be found
on the workshop websitehttp://seiworkshop.org. Please feel free to contact
the SEI co-chairs, Meghan Musolff (musol...@umich.edu) or Greta Bahnemann
(bahne...@umn.edu) with any questions. Reduced tuition is offered to VRA and
ARLIS/NA members.

[MCN-L] visitor discussion forum

2015-03-12 Thread Matt Wheeler
Hello colleagues--

As part of our museum's strategic plan to begin incorporating digital
technologies into our on-campus experience, we're planning a QR-triggered
link to a virtual conversation among visitors around one of our summer
exhibits (showcasing the work of women photographers from the early
twentieth century). The interpretive content will have a somewhat feminist
perspective, and we're hopeful about sparking response and interaction.

While we want the conversation to be inclusive and spontaneous, we also
want to be able to moderate it to the extent of being able to quickly
remove content that is disrespectful to other participants.

Has anyone engineered a virtual space like this? What platform worked well?
How did you supervise the dialogue? I'll be very interested to hear of
people's experiences.

Best regards, Matt
