[MCN-L] Register for "Can We Do That?" before the workshop fills!

Registration is filling fast for *Can We Do That?: Intellectual Property
Rights and Visual Media*, a Visual Resources Association Foundation
Regional Workshop . Can We Do That? will be held on Thursday, March 30,
2017 at this Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) and co-hosted by the
University of Oregon Libraries.  We are fortunate to have as our workshop
instructor Cara Hirsch, former Associate General Counsel at the Solomon R.
Guggenheim Foundation and former Deputy General Counsel at ArtStor. Cara
brings vast experience to her instructor role, having supervised the rights
review and clearance process for media collections in the Artstor Digital
Library, a digital image resource that makes available to nonprofit
institutions over 1.7 million digital images in the arts, architecture,
humanities, and sciences.  We are certain that cultural heritage
professionals, the information and educational communities, and anyone
interested in visual culture will benefit from this experience, and for
those of you who also plan to attend Online Northwest (
http://onlinenorthwest.org/) on Friday, March 31, joining us for Can We Do
That? represents a unique opportunity to make a long weekend packed with
high-level programming!

[MCN-L] Freer Sackler Photographer position

Introduction
The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery together form the 
Smithsonian's museums of Asian art. The galleries are devoted to the research, 
acquisition, exhibition, care and management of the renowned collections of 
Asian art in each museum and American art in the Freer Gallery. The mission of 
the Galleries is to encourage enjoyment and understanding of the arts of Asia 
and the cultures that produced them, and to use works of art to inspire study 
and provoke thought. The two museums are co-administered and share the same 
staff.

The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day and long term photographic 
needs for the museum. The incumbent will complete photography and other digital 
imaging assignments and services, including production of high-resolution still 
and video images of the Museum's collection objects that will be used as 
educational, commercial, promotional and informational output for the museum.   
The incumbent will use photographic standards and best practices to ensure the 
safe and efficient flow of work.  Will need to provide, as needed, reports on 
photographic equipment needs and research of new photographic technologies.

Incumbent must demonstrate skill in photographing fine art with high- end 
photography hardware and software.  Must be able to resolve special technical 
problems such as photographing the reflective properties of object surfaces to 
eliminate glare and reflections, adjusting colors or enhancing contrasts, and 
rendering fine details or exact color renditions using specialized lighting to 
illuminate cavities or minute parts of an object.  Must be able to communicate 
clearly and tactfully with high-level museum personnel and business 
representatives.

The position is located in the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery building in 
Washington, DC. The salary range is $66,510-$86,460 (equivalent to a grade 11

[MCN-L] JOB: Museum Project Coordinator, Washington DC

The Digital Media and Technology (DMT) Project Coordinator reports to the Freer 
and Sackler Galleries’ Chief Digital Officer. The incumbent will be responsible 
for the general day-to-day administration and facilitation of project activity 
within the department, which includes Web, AV, Imaging and Photo Services, and 
IT. The incumbent will provide assistance to the department head in the 
planning, implementation, management, and documentation of departmental (some 
cross departmental) projects and initiatives, adhering to scope, timeline and 
budget.  The incumbent will also assist the department with the preparation and 
record keeping of the annual budget.

This position requires an ability to meet and communicate clearly and tactfully 
with high-level museum personnel and business representatives, and to apply 
knowledge of appropriate protocol in a variety of sensitive situations. 
Incumbent must show skills in written communication (including use of computer 
for communication) sufficient to produce written and oral reports, knowledge of 
project management and administrative practices and procedures to ensure the 
efficient flow of work, and the ability to serve as a liaison with gallery 
staff and other Smithsonian offices.

Incumbent will be located in the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery building in 
Washington, DC. The salary range is $53,000 to $69,000 (equivalent to a grade 9
