[MCN-L] barrier free wifi
Sorry, I posted earlier but got blocked because of my attachment so I removed it. We use a device called PFSense. It is a free open source firewall, router, unified threat management, load balancing software that we run on a separate PC. http://www.pfsense.org/ We use it "just" for our public WiFi. It allows us to block whatever we want, for example we block access to IP addresses because of the security risk. When someone accesses our public WiFi, they will immediately get a "disclaimer" statement (for our legal protection) -- see attached. Once they click on the I AGREE button they are connected to our website so they know they are on the WiFi. Then they are free to roam wherever (unless it is something we've blocked using our PFSense). With PFSense we can also set limits on how much of our bandwidth is dedicated to our public WiFi, which I see as a definite benefit. We currently allocate 2MB to our public Wifi which is totally sufficient. _________ Dee McConville Director of Technology Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art 500 West Washington Street Indianapolis, IN? 46204 Direct:? The company also sells software entitled STADIS that integrates ticketing, concessions, and merchandise. So far, it seems to be powerful enough for our operations. We use Retail Pro for our museum store and we have integrated Retail Pro with our museum store's web site (www.whiterivertrader.com). We are just beginning to research ticketing software for our admissions ticketing area. Any recommendations are appreciated! (Retail Pro would "not" be our software of choice for admissions ticketing.) ****** Dee McConville Director of Technology Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art 500 West Washington Street Indianapolis, IN 46204 (317) 275-1364 dmcconvi...@eiteljorg.com www.eiteljorg.org -Original Message- From: mc...@lists.mediatrope.com [mailto:mc...@lists.mediatrope.com] On Behalf Of Amber Combs Sent: Monday, April 03, 2006 4:01 PM To: Multiple recipients of mcn-l Subject: Ticketing Software Question We currently use VISTA for our ticketing and tour reservations and a custom POS system for our retail operations. Does anyone know of or use a system that handles both retail sales and ticketing? Or does anyone use VISTA back office for tour reservations and a different system for retail and ticketing? I'd really appreciate any advice or information anyone might have about combining ticketing and store sales. Thanks! Re: Scheduling software
We are in the same boat…we will be looking for similar software in the next year. For now, we are using a customized tour scheduling program that we created in Access with the help of a programmer. It works great, but as you know Access has limitations as well. Raisers Edge has a new module called Patron Edge, but I haven’t seen a demo on it yet. If anyone has found something they really like, please share! * Dee McConville Director of Technology Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art 500 West Washington Street Indianapolis, IN 46204 (317) 275-1364 dmcconvi...@eiteljorg.com www.eiteljorg.org From: Janice [mailto:janice.cradd...@cartermuseum.org] Sent: Tuesday, August 02, 2005 4:32 PM To: mcn-l@mcn.edu Subject: Scheduling software Has anyone found scheduling software that is uncomplicated and incorporates scheduling all aspects within a Museum? We mainly have tours, special events, and daily staff meetings that we want to track on one calendar (instead of 10 different public calendars in Outlook!) It would be nice if it could produce daily and weekly activity reports; monthly and annual statistics, like numbers of attendants to different types of tours and functions; track docent hours based on which tours they were scheduled to do, track resource usage, etc; and give everything to you in one calendar view screen! And don’t forget unlimited users because we want everyone on staff to be able to view the calendar and may be even book staff meeting rooms. We looked at Vista, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge Events module, and ABC Event Manager. There are things I like about each one of them. They all seem to focus on different aspects of event planning. Some on room allocation, some on tracking resources, some on finance, some on ticketing… but, we just haven’t quite found what we need. So, what software are you using and what do you like/dislike about it?
