anyone know anything about this device? It can allow
storing of data files from a computer on MD using
sound wave trasaction. It's now on sale for $99.
Just saw it on Comedex'99 but don't know where to buy
 it.

It's a product that came about as a result of discussions in
alt.audio.minidisc some time ago when I was building a project which did
exactly that. Unfortunately they don't seem to have conquered the
compression system I used yet because it doesn't offer anything better than
cassette, transferring at rates slower than a 28k modem. They wont get the
compression system either because I have patent on it and Iomega made me an
offer I couldn't really refuse! :o)

RE: MD: Discman-adaptor for MD-MT15 - ???

1999-11-20 Thread Tony Antoniou

The extra 1.5V is not doing the MD recorder any good. You need a 3V adaptor
for it. Just get a 3V regulated supply (rated at 500mA) and that will get
you out of trouble.

Output: 4,5 V
500 mA

My portie has:

DC 2.4V(Nickel-metal battery) x1
DC 3V LR6(Size AA) x2

When i plug it in, it works for about 30 seconds, and then it comes
with a "POWER?" message, and stops working. When i put batteries
in it, and i plug the adaptor in, then it stops immediatly. Would
this hurd my portie?

Re: MD: Are There Any Other Titling Options

1999-11-20 Thread Mitch P.

Yes, I should have clarified my earlier post. I was
really looking for other titling options using a
Portable Sony MZ-R55. I have received a good number
of replies, but they are for home decks. Well, I just
ordered a Sony MDS-JE630, to arrive next week. This
one will be great for what I want. It has a keybord
input on the back of the deck, so titling will be a
breeze, no need for buying software and hooking it up
to the computer.
I got it for a good price too!

Thanks,
Mitch

==BEGIN QUOTE
does anyone have Voquette's NetLink MD to PC connection and software, is it
any good, and where can i buy it separately from the MT15?
==END QUOTE=

This program would use "text-to-speech" renderiong to read out e-mails and
other similar material onto an audio medium such as cassette or MD; and play
MP3 files onto the audio medium.

MD: Transferring MD to CD

1999-11-20 Thread Martin Schiff

Is there any software out there that makes it easier to transfer a MD to a
CD including splitting the tracks on the CD to match the MD? I have a Sharp
MD-R2 deck attached to my computer with a Toslink cable to a Hoontech sound
card and am able to do a digital transfer. I also have a 702 portable that I
use to make the recordings.

I am currently recording the MD as a single WAV file with a digital transfer
to the computer, and then editing it in Sound Forge to break it up into
tracks (separate wav files), and apply some mastering to the recording for
live concerts that I record with my 702 portable. Then I write it to a CD
with Adaptec's Easy CD Creator. The results using this method are excellent,
but it's rather tedious when all I want to do is transfer an MD to CD
without editing it.

I could program my MD deck to put a 2 second silent track between each music
track when transferring to the computer, and then use Adaptec's Spin Doctor
to automatically break it at the silence, but in some cases, I would rather
not have the silence, just a CD track mark.

Any suggestions?

Hi Rick,

If it's any help to you, I have a broken Sharp 702 unit which ignores
TOC information. This unit will play the entire contents of a disc from
00:00 to 74:59 stereo, or 00:00 to 149:58 mono, ignoring all track marks
etc. I could always copy the contents of the disc onto a blank one. Email me
if interested.

 Hi Merijn,

Thanks for the note. I'm forwarding it to the MD mailing list in case
 there are other comments.

"E M van der Meer" [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

But if you could forward it to the list then that would be great. I
would be really anxious to learn what people think for a solution.

Here is my problem. Since I have three discs to recover I decided to
try and recover them using the test mode swapping method.
Unfortunately without success. I have a sony MZ-R55.

I will describe what I have tried. For I didn't see the info for this
model on the www.minidisc.org page yet.

Maybe you can also tell me what I am doing wrong?

 Here we go:
I inserted a disc that I had recorded one track only in mono for 149
minutes and some seconds. Until it turned itself off. This because
the disc I am trying to recover was also written in mono. However it
 consisted of a few tracks.

 Entering Test Mode
The MZ-R30 and MZ-R35 are put into test mode by placing a 24
kiloOhms resistor between pin 2 and 4 (counting from left to right,
with the headphone jack on the left) of the remote control connector
when the unit is not in use.

No problems here. I did this by plugging of the power to the machine
(battery already removed) and then inserting a 24K Ohm resistor
 between pin 2 and 4. Worked perfectly. I saw a Version 1.50
blinking. I opened the case and swapped the disc to the one I wanted
to recover. Closed the case and waited a few seconds (no recorder
noise btw). and then unplugged the power again. Removed the resistor
and connected the power again. But the recorder as soon as you now
press play will scan the new disc's TOC. I don't hear noises of
writing a TOC when I connect the power again.

Also I tried unplugging the power after chaning the name of the disc with
one track and directly after pressing okay for the name change I
unplugged
the power. Still, same lousy result.

Do you know what I do wrong? I really need to recover these
recordings since the music on it means a lot to me.

 Any help is appreciated.
 Thanks in advance.

Right. The problem is that this TOC hacking test-mode trick is only
for Sony decks. It doesn't work for the portables. Could you let me
know what page you were reading that mislead you in this way?

Perhaps someone on the list could offer to recover your TOC for you?
