Matter of fact, my Sony S7700 DVD player has no problem with CD-R's and
CD-RW's. But then again, maybe that's why it was so expensive 3#-)

Adios,

Second generation DVD-ROM drives read CDRs music and data. Their compatible
with 'everything'. I thoughed that this would also apply to seperate
component DVD players..

MD: Sony MZ-R2

1999-12-21 Thread Jeremy Chang

Hi, I own a Sony MZ-R2 player, and I've had it for about 3 years. I've
started to notice the problem that I've heard of - the spring is starting to
wear down, or something like that; either way, I get "Disc err" sometimes.
How much should repairing this cost?

Also, when I record an MP3 onto the player, it creates seemingly random
tracks - one MP3 took up 5 tracks. How do I fix this?

Lastly, I just want to check how the recording volume works - I goto manual
record mode, hit pause, and turn up the recording volume, unpause, and
record, and it should make the recording louder, right?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Re: MD: Mini DV Cam/md-l-mimedigest V2 #461

1999-12-21 Thread Christopher Spalding

Wait a minute, Christopher Spalding, genius, excellent person, etc. You
were the one who initially said the PC100 was the 3CCD DV Cam version of
the TRV900. I and several others on this list then pointed out the
DCR-PC100 is not the DV Cam 3CCD version of the TRV900. The DSR-PD-100
is the 3CCD DV Cam version of the TRV900. The DCR-PC100, which you have
been reading the manual of, of course, doesn't mention a 3CCD because it
is, in fact, a single chip Mini DV Camera. You just got the model
numbers wrong, they are really similar. DSR-PD-100 is the 3CCD DV Cam
version of the TRV900, the DCR-PC-100 is the 1070k single chip multi CCD
Mini DV Cam that has since been revealed by Graham Baker to actually be
a 680k CCD for video, exactly the same as the TRV10.

Yes, thankyou, I already admitted my mistake, but in actual fact it was the
model letters that i got mixed up, purely because the PC100 has not been
released here yet AFAIK.

May I conclude that you're using video in the semi-proffesional domain and

I had a boss that told me to never assume anything. Even the word
itself says it. Assume, makes an ASS of U and Me. See it is right in
the very spelling of the word.

you if you want.) These units are CHEAP. They only cost like $65.00 at
Wal-Mart. YES, Wal-Mart and I'm told by a friend that they're going to
reduce the price again... They'd make a great entry-level unit for those
wanting to add MD to their cars...

Thanks for the note, this sounds fascinating. Any chance you can send
in a picture? I'm forwarding your note to the MD mailing list in case
others are familiar with this machine.

Egads, $65? That's cheap for ANYTHING MD! I've seen car tape players
cheaper than that. Could there have been an error in that it's really
$165? And at Wal-Mart too???
Proof that MD is going mainstream? :)

Anyway, I found a picture of it at:
http://www.sanyo.co.jp/AV/CEmedia_e/products/car/MDR-4/MDR4.html

Doesn't look as nice as the Sony's, but it sure as heck looks a lot more
expensive than $65.

MD: Update / ATRAC Problem?

1999-12-21 Thread James Jarvie

Hello all.

First, thank you to Ray and Tim for responding to my
enqueries re: rechargeable batteries for the MD-15.

You may recall, that approximately 3 weeks ago, when I
purchased the MD-15 (my first MD unit), I was
disappointed with my intial attempts at recording.
With the encouragement of many of you, I persevered.
I have since made three digital recordings from CDs,
and am generally pleased with the results.

In general, the only differences I hear between the
original CDs and the digitally recorded MDs is a lack
of what we used to call some 30 years ago - presence.
I still believe it to be a reduction of the overtones
that cause this. The actual notes are reproduced
acurately, and the timbre seems accurate. Hard to
define exactly what I mean by presence - but there is
a certain resonance that seems to be on the CDs more
than on the MDs. This is more apparent in classical
recordings than in rock or jazz recordings.

While I don't believe the quality to be 99% as good as
CD, I do like the format and its conveniences well
enough. In fact, I just bought the Sony CD - MD deck
- can never remember the model #, MDX-MD3 or something
like that. Have set it up; but haven't had time to
try it out yet.

Now to my question. One of the pieces I recorded
(digitally) on my MD-15 was a work for bassoon and
piano by Jules Massenet. Towards the end of this
brief work - at about 1:27 into it, there is a chord
played on the lower part of the piano. I have
listened a couple of times to this chord, and I have
to say that it sounds more like noise (almost like the
sound of someone blowing slowly into a microphone)
than a piano chord.

Has anyone ever experienced problems recording chords
on the bass portion of a piano?

Thanks for your help. Also, thanks for the digest,
it's been helpful.

James
