It's not a bad product, but it is only a 4x read, 4x write 2x rewrite drive. You can get much better drives that are cheaper if you look at internal ATAPI devices from most other manufacturers. It also suffers a bit from buffer under-run[1] if you use the minimum specification they recommend. To achieve a stable write every time you need to quite every other program running. I would recommend at least a P200MMX for reliable use. They seem to be having a $30 rebate saale right now. I could record on my protable Minidisc recorder, edit on my home deck and then dump it to a CD. You *could* but you need to get the music onto the computer, and in my opinion that is the hardest part. You need to record the whole disc onto your hard drive (you'll need about 720Mb free for a full disc - 680Mb music and 40Mb workspace). You then need to get a piece of software such as Steinberg WaveLab2 which supports CD writing and track marking to burn a CD with track marks. You'll need to put the track marks in by hand because the PC wont detect them. Why don't you just get a stand alone CD-R unit for the Hi-Fi? [1] Buffer under-run is where the computer doesn't supply the drive with data fast enough, so the drive can't fnish writing the disc and you end up loosing that disc and having to redo it. -- Magic Location : Portsmouth, England, UK Homepage : http://www.mattnet.freeserve.co.uk EMail : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] "A book judged by it's cover makes for a very shallow read." - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
