The response ( on my answ. mach.) was: "it does contain the processing of the MD output on the digital output, so my understanding is that it does contain the ATRAC coding as well as any copy protection..." In other words, the first phrase is a sure thing from some higher source, but the second is a guess on the part of the tech who checked it out. "Processing" could just mean AD/DA, or copy-protection, and not ATRAC. Still no word-of-God answer.
