The problem here is that you are doing too much converting.  You are
decompressing MP3 files into .wav files which with the right digital output can
be read by an MD recorder.  You are then taking decompressed MP3 .wav files and
"compressing" (I know it's not technically compression, it is bit wise reduction)
them again.  Finally to be able to listen to them you have to convert them pack
to "uncompressed" files.

This is the technology that we have available right now.  Converting MP3 files
directly to ATRAC3 (if it can be "ripped") seems like it would give you a closer
copy to the original which was a .wav file to begin with.

Somewhere along the line it has to start out as a .wav file or a "virtual" music
files on a special CD format.  I'm sure most of you know that if you look at the
"files" on a music CD in their computer drive directory, they register as only
1kb .CDA "files".   You CD ROM has to be capable of digital audio extraction
(which I think all present day CD ROM drives are).

My computer states that they are CDFS file system and although Windows explorer
will only show 1KB per song, a program designed to create CDs might show 350MB
for example.
