Hm. "Get on the freeway from Rd 29 on I-5 and go .25 miles" never failed

I'm a road warrior like Brian Toscano seemed to be. AAA has paid for itself
each year without roadside assistance.

The AT-1000, a free standing, resealable, clam shell case which includes,

Re: [MBZ] AAA

2009-09-29 Thread Redghost

I have found AAA to be a life saver.

used it to get the 300D to the SLC dealer for gremlin chasing (89
miles). hauled the same car to a dealer when the throttle shaft
imploded (36 miles) Came out to change SWMBA flat tires. Good for
jump starts on Gump a few times.

We have used it for a few discounts on hotels and stores. The more
you use the discounts, the more you can recoup the annual fee.

As a realtor, Regina may have access to the same sort of discounts
from organizations.

Re: [MBZ] battery drain 1985 300TD

2009-09-29 Thread Jim Cathey
Yes, the drain can be caused by the radio. I don't know how, but it
happened.

The radio receives both switched power, and unswitched power.
(Maintaining presets, running the clock, handling operation
while the key is off [later units], etc.)

Obviously the unswitched circuitry inside the radio was at
fault. Nothing wrong with the design, it was just broken.

On my 126 it was the radio amp in the trunk. Unplug the ant, and see if
the drain stops. If so, its the ant. Drain on mine continued with ant
unplugged and 'til I unplugged radio amp in trunk. Your 85 123 may not

The battery would drain on my 126 if the radio was turned off before
I shut down the engine. If I left the radio on, the drain did not
occur. The condition persisted after I had to replace the

FWIW, when my 603 cracked its head, the initial diagnosis (via
circumstancial evidence, i.e. sudden and repeatable overheating) was
confirmed by there being CO in spades in the overflow reservoir.

I'm thinking that if any notable quantity of gas gets into the coolant, the only
place for it to escape is through the 'radiator' cap, so it would have to
eventually make its way to the device.

I suppose this is the 'test solution', we used to detect exhaled CO2 with it in
sixth grade science class. The green indication for diesel is probably due to
the weak concentration of CO2 in the exhaust of an idling diesel.

This verifies that it works with Diesel:
"Continue to force radiator gases through test fluid by squeezing bulb for
about 1 minute. If fluid turns *YELLOW* (in diesel engines, fluid maybe turn
green-yellow), a combustion leak is present. If fluid remains *BLUE*, a
combustion leak is not occurring while test is in process." from the web
page Max posted.

Now - it refers to needing full circulation of coolant, and shows plugging
the tester into the radiator neck. The later MBs don't have a radiator neck

I still haven't been able to get a look at the car. My window of
opportunity yesterday didn't match the owner's, so probably Wed. after
work I'm going to take a look.

What's the definitive test for coolant leaking from head gasket? If the
car is burning coolant that would show up in engine oil analysis, right?
If leaking out the side of the block/head joint, should be residue
right? Is there an instant test for coolant in oil other than milky
color? Can I see enough of the block/head joint or is it buried under
stuff. Is there a common failure point of head gasket that I should
look at first?

He did it while trying to install the mirror - I don't have the details,
but can imagine it involved twisting the mirror to get more swinging
room

Re: [MBZ] [Fwd: Today's Diesel Prices]

2009-09-29 Thread Dillon, Meade M CIV SPAWARSYSCEN-ATLANTIC, 53310
Our local diesel prices in Charleston SC have been well below this
report for the last couple of months (Last two fill-up were 2.45/gal).
Am I just lucky or has this report become less accurate?

Very respectfully,
