Too bad about the price. Not mine, no interest (number of doors moving the wrong way). I have had the car 5 years and it has been a great classic car, I hit a deer with it a year ago on the RF and fixed it enough to drive but I think it would be too costly to fix right. The car is a 4 spd standard shift on the floor which is pretty rare, it also has roll up windows and no power steering which I have never seen on another MB. The car currently has US style Bosch H4 lights but I still have the LF Euro lamp and all the RF lamp except the lens. Lately the car has a cold start problem and runs rich, when I bought the car it had just had the carbs rebuilt and new linkage, I have not tried any adjustment to fix the problem as I took it off the road. The tires are fresh and on 14 inch Bundt alloys. I have done routine maintenance on the car, replaced a couple of brake calipers, sway bar end links, etc. The paint job on the car was horrible and would take a lot of work to bring back. I was sort of hoping to find another coupe to transplant this drivetrain into but health issues dictate that I move this project along. $1500 not open to trades or offers... ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Did not know that until I hit my indy to let him know of the no start issue. He pointed out that there was no need for me to try to make the one I had into the one that came off the car. He went into his parts room and pulled out the exact filter. Gave me the same information about spark v. no fuel. If there was no spark, I had fouled the plugs. When I had removed the old filter, I had clamped the hoses to keep the fuel from spilling about. I pulled the filter off and emptied the petrol into the old margarine tub. Out came black stuff. Not thick, same as the standard but looks like carbon soaked. When I put the new filter on I hooked up the spark test tool. Then I waited for SWMBA to come home to either be blown apart or attest to the functionality of the spark. She said the spark was fine. Engine almost caught on the short test, so I popped the wire back on and lit it off again. It runs now. Will need to get a proper tune up with new points and condenser to make sure timing is right. clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1972 220D - Gump - She is green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Cleo - Used by the Queen of Denial POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Hi Wilton, It turned out to be a disaster... no title, unknown miles, etc. It ended up sitting for a while until the paperwork was worked out. My father worked with detectives in Florida to go after the guy, but it seemed that what they did (misrepresent, no title) isn't much of a crime there unless you can prove the same people did it over and over again. In the end, he ended up driving the car for a few years and selling it off. It turned out to be a pretty good car, but left a bad taste in his mouth and wasn't what he paid for. Re: [MBZ] OT: Fledging electric car market in turmoil
Also, what about battery life, replacement cost, and environmental impact of battery production and disposition? -Original Message- From: mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Gerry Archer Sent: Saturday, October 06, 2012 1:36 AM To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Subject: [MBZ] OT: Fledging electric car market in turmoil The fledgling electric car business is in turmoil as predictions about potential sales have proven to be wildly optimistic despite volatile fuel prices and plenty of media hype. Weak consumer demand is hitting both the big automakers like General Motors and Nissan - which have failed to meet sales targets on the plug-in Volt and all-electric Leaf - and smaller start-up firms trying to carve out a piece of a very small niche. Electric vehicles don't make any more sense today than they did in 1912, says Sean McAlinden, an analyst with the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They take too long to charge, the range is too short and they cost too much. Electric cars also face stiff competition from hybrids and improved fuel efficiency in conventional vehicles as automakers update their fleet to meet tougher government standards. Toyota recently announced plans to drastically scale back the release of its all-electric eQ and Honda has limited the release of its Fit EV to 1,100 US customers over the next two years. The Chevy Volt - which can switch over to a regular gasoline engine once the battery runs out of juice - is by far the most successful electric car in the United States. After a slow start, Volt sales have tripled this year with help of discounted leases and a decision by California to allow them in fast-moving carpool lanes on the state's clogged freeways. But sales of 16,348 through September are still far short of the 45,000 Volts that the US Department of Energy forecast in a 2011 report that GM could sell per year. As fuel prices rise, consumers have been far more attracted to Toyota's Prius hybrid, which saw sales double this year to 183,340 vehicles. Sales of the all-electric Leaf - which has a maximum range of 73 miles (117 kilometers) - are down 28 percent to just 5,212 vehicles in the United States this year despite a major marketing push. Nissan - which is preparing to open a new assembly for electric vehicles in Tennessee - is falling well short of CEO Carlos Ghosn's ambitious goal to double Leaf sales for fiscal 2013. Only two years ago, the Boston Consulting Group predicted electric vehicle sales could reach five percent or roughly 4 million to 5 million vehicles of the industry's total global sales volume by 2020. Now they are saying electric vehicles might represent just three percent of total global sales. While the big automakers can cushion their massive investments in electric vehicles with sales of conventional cars, the painfully slow growth and the difficulties in adapting electric technology to the tastes of modern motorists have posed huge challenges for startups. Tesla Motors is falling behind in its efforts to produce a sleek new electric vehicle, the electric vehicle start-up company spawned by Silicon Valley billionaire Elon Musk acknowledged in a recent regulatory filing. That leaves the Palo Alto, California-based company in danger of failing to meet the terms of a $465 million Energy Department loan. Nonetheless, electric vehicles advocates remain upbeat and investors are not shying from the companies. Tesla was able to raise $128 million by selling new shares of common stock and Fisker Automotive also raised $100 million in new capital last month despite problems with the launch of its extended range electric vehicle, the Karma. Tony Posawatz, Fisker's third chief executive officer since February, acknowledged the company made mistakes but dismissed a crushing review by Consumer Reports, which described the Karma's design as flawed. Customers do like these cars, said Posawatz, a former GM executive who had been responsible for bringing the Volt to market. Fisker has sold more than 1,000 Karmas, which cost $103,000, since the car went on sale last December. Posawatz also predicted the technology for electric and extended range electric vehicles will catch on. It took 10 years, but the Prius is the best-selling vehicle in California, he said at a recent meeting of the Automotive Press Association in Detroit. I thought it may have been something like that. That's one of the reasons (and a couple of cars I considered buying several years ago) I'm leery of buying any used car that has been titled in FL. In fact, that's one of the first things I look for now - has it been titled in FL? However, most brushed universal motors, dating from Edison days, are VERY INDIFFERENT to the quality of power they get. They, and incandescent lamps, only care about the RMS power; the form, whether AC/DC and what frequency (within reason) are irrelevant. So, if the thing sounds like a router or blender one can probably do exactly what the cheap converters do, and put a power diode in there to cut off half the 220V waveform to feed a 120V device. To go the other way, as YOU wish to do, you're screwed. You need a 2:1 step-up transformer. More expensive than a new appliance, that is. Unless, of course, the thingy itself was designed to be strapped (internally) for 120V. Unlikely, I'd say. Or try it on 120V and see how happy it is. Computers and many other electronic devices have power supplies that will take 100-250V and make it right for the output. Appliances are not the same. US 110V = single phase, 3 wire 60Hz; between 2 hots you get 220V, between either hot and neutral you get 110V. Euro 220V = single phase, 2 wire; between hot and neutral you get 220V w/ no option of 110V. Universal voltage appliances are Japanese -- one side of the island is 110V 60Hz US standard, the other (West) side is German -- 220V 50Hz. This is why having those exploded nuclear power stations off line was such a problem -- it requires an inverter plant to transfer power from the west side to the east! As a result all Japanese appliances are dual voltage/ frequency. This is NOT true of European appliances. Have an electrician check it out, you may smoke the the motor using 110. It'll be running at 1/4 power, though. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
