[MBZ] Binding brakes

2014-09-13 Thread Euan Kennedy via Mercedes

A question from the Colonies

My 300 TD hasn't had a run for quite a while. Almost six months. Last
week, she and I ventured out for a sunny Sunday drive.

I found that the front disk brakes were binding. The faster I went of
course the more they bound. I limped home at 50 kph which seemed to be
the speed at which air flow over the rotors cancelled friction heat.

I'm assuming that the problem lies not in the calipers but elsewhere.
Any ideas?

Logic could be made that a TV camera is a device which caused public and
individual harm on the same scale as a machine gun, thus must be subject to
the same level of government control "for the public good" could it not?

Imagine if Al "notso" Sharpton were limited to 10 words, on par with the
New York gun magazine regulation making the ability to carry more than 10
bullets for your gun a felony crime. Would that "10 word civil rule" have
possibly prevented the Ferguson Mo. riots thus saving both blood and
treasure for the citizens of Mo. ?

Should not logic applied to one Amendment be equally applied to another
Amendment? And if that logic is flawed in one application, is it not
equally flawed in the other?

I never got to have discussions like this for my PhD in Liberal Underwater
Origami and Alternate Lifestyles Studies.

Thanks,

Grant...

2014-09-13 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
A shocking and much overlooked fact. America is a Constitutional Republic [
Pledge of allegiance "and the Republic for which it stands"] not a
democracy.

It can be summed up this way;

A Democracy is two wolves and one sheep voting on what is for dinner.
 [ Majority rules]

A Republic is one well armed sheep inviting two wolves to eat all the grass
they want for dinner.
[Individual responsibility with the right to self defense by any means
necessary]

As long as this nation functioned as a Republic, it thrived like none other
in history. As soon as it was lead to act as a democracy, it started
failing, it's citizens stopped taking responsibility, and government took
control of citizens God given rights.

Classic example.. IRS seized the Mustang Ranch in Nevada.. one of the
oldest whore houses in the USA and one of the most successful.. it also
sold booze.. Under management by IRS installed agents of the federal
government, it went bankrupt.. The government couldn't even turn a profit
selling women and whiskey. That about sums up how well every other
government agency has functioned. Please name one that has provided good
service and turned a profit or produced a product.. I can't ...

Your mileage may vary..

And records show less than 1/2% of CCW holders have been involved in
crimes. And that small percentage was often crimes where a concealed
gun was inadvertently carried into a location where they are not allowed.

this is In stark contrast to the cries of gun fights over parking
spaces and blood running in the streets by those opposed to allowing law
abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons.

With all of the statistics and claims made about gun ownership, no one has
mentioned the huge number of people SAVED through the defensive use of a
gun each year. You'll never read about it in the main stream media but

there

have been several studies done that indicate numbers between 500,000 and
2,000,000 per year in the US. Here's an excerpt from just one, a CDC study
ordered by Obama in Jan 2013:
"Defensive uses of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence, although
the exact number remains disputed (Cook and Ludwig, 1996; Kleck, 2001a),"
the study reads. "Almost all national survey estimates indicate that

defensive

gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals,
with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3
million per year (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent

crimes

involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010)."
Guns are a tool, a great way to level the playing field that allows the

weak

and small to defend themselves from the thugs. Remember, the courts have
stated numerous times that the police have no duty to protect you.

Safe driving,

it should also be noted that the cost *avoided *by having citizens
armed, may dwarf the costs shown in the study. Unfortuntely (AFAIK) it
is impossible to definitively quantify the cost avoided by having armed
citizens among us. It has been estimated that between 15,,000 and
4,500,000 crimes have been stopped or prevented annually by citizens
using firearms.

Re: [MBZ] OT propane burners

2014-09-13 Thread clay via Mercedes
Mine die from the tin worm, but not as fast as yours. Mostly cheap chinese
garbage does not have enough stainless parts to live long. The iron and sheet
metal have begun rusting away. I will need to source a larger gauge of metal
to replace the junk metal. Probably looking at forged instead of bent sheet
metal and low quality high temp paint

[MBZ] FYI eBay spring compressor

2014-09-13 Thread John Reames via Mercedes
I ordered a spring compressor from "El Paso Tools" (alkyracer101).

It arrived in a box sealed with "Baum Tools Unlimited" paper/filament tape.
Inside the box was a heavy-gauge blow-molded case also bearing "Baum Tools
Unlimited" labels. Inside the case, the instructions were packed in a ziploc
bag; the instructions also agreed with the branding.

I believe that it's safe to presume that the tool is a Baum product, albeit at
less than 1/4 of Baum's direct sales cost.

The tool itself appears to be of good quality; the center column uses a three
lug design to hold the lower plate in place and prevent rotation, not unlike
the Klann model, but I believe that the lugs are larger than the Klann ones.
The top end has a conical tapered section to hold the top plate in place and
six lugs, not unlike a spline to prevent rotation.

The center column has ball bearing type thrust bearing. This explains the note
that use of power/impact tools would void the warranty, since the ball bearing
would quickly develop brinelling. The inner/lower "sleeves" are prevented from
rotating by several square lugs that ride in grooves. The upper section has
grooves that are cut all the way through, which permits re-lubrication of the
screw (which has a trapezoidal type thread instead of the square or even
triangular threads as are found on cheaper units).

The screw itself looks to have a black oxide or similar finish, with the rest
of the center column looks like it has been parkerized with a black finish. It
looks like the top end of the tool is possibly a little larger in diameter than
the Klann unit that I rented from Rusty a while back (based on my memory of how
it felt in my hand)

The plates look to be a lighter grey parkerized finish, and are nice and thick;
there are two different sizes of plates, just like the Klann.

Overall weight of the tool set in its case is close to 15 lbs. I definitely
feel safe in using it; I am almost tempted to replace a a cracked LCA and ball
joints in a W210 despite the rain, but I am not going to for safety reasons.

I'll let y'all know how well it works after I get those jobs done. I think
it's a heck of a good buy at about $150 shipped!

Re: [MBZ] N

2014-09-13 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
It is my considered personal opinion that if one of the other Amendments
were being given the same treatment as the Second Amendment, there would be
much public concern. Second Amendment, by the way, is not about guns, it is
about the personal God given right to self protection by any means.

I propose, in the interest of equality, the First Amendment be subject to
any limitation placed on Second Amendment. To wit... A ten word limit,
special government issued permit to speak, waiting period with background
check to insure that you are not an offending speaker, and if you are a
prohibited speaker prison for possession and use of speech. Further,
possession of rapid speech devices [teleprompters, news cameras, bull
horns, and newspaper printing devices] should require a special BATF tax
stamp which cost $2000 per serial numbered item [or more] and expensive and
exhaustive background checks taking over 6 months. Also, no such item made
after 1968 could be sold or transfer ownership.

All in favor say "Aye"... [voice vote, no need to put it on Congressional
record how you voted, election coming up, you know.

Favorite quote of Will Rodgers: "Thank God we don't get all the government
we pay for"

Respectfully,

Grant...
