Why own a CNC ? Just build the program for the part and rent production
time. There are loads of small [relatively] shops that have excess
machinery capacity now because the economy is in the tank. Production
demand is down, but the machine sets there costing space and money..

I'm on several machinery auction lists, every day there is another shop
doing a bankruptcy sale because they couldn't get enough orders to keep the
machines busy.

Rent time, make parts, sell them..

Unfortunately, for the rubber part, it would require a set of molds. Last
time I had a mold set made, it ran a bit over $120,000, so recovery costs
would require volume production and sales. Yet, there is likely a work
around on that, I just haven't thought of it yet.

[MBZ] W140 wiper refills

2015-04-18 Thread Mitch Haley

The good news is my new-to-me 1997 S420 appears to have genuine OE wiper blades.
They're Bosch made and the part that latches into the wiper arm has the star on
it.

The bad news is the left insert is bad, and the right one is falling apart. (the
right one appears to be original to the blade, which probably isn't original to
the car)

I know I can get refills at the dealer (140824032701 and 140824012701), but is

It's a Forest River Solera 24R, with 2 slides, walk-around queen bed for us
and cabover sleeper for the grandkids. We're flying in to Denver to inspect
and purchase. Our current rig is a 29' 5th. wheel pulled by a crew cab
Powerchoke F-250. It's tough (or impossible) to get into sites in the
National Parks and US Forest Service campgrounds that we favor. The Solera
will pretty much get into any site, and is a vastly superior rig for longer
destinations with overnight stops.

The PO is a retired engineer who has done most of the mods SWMBO and I would
want: HD rear Bilsteins, HD rear sway bar, and hydraulic stabilizers (for
me); Satellite radio (for SWMBO). He even emailed me his oil analysis
results :-)!

I plan to add 200W of solar panels right off the bat. Solar has gotten much
cheaper and much more efficient for RV applications. This will be our 3rd.
and most likely our last RV.

I plan to add 200W of solar panels right off the bat. Solar has
gotten much cheaper and much more efficient for RV applications. This
will be our 3rd.
and most likely our last RV.

The good news is my new-to-me 1997 S420 appears to have genuine OE wiper

They're Bosch made and the part that latches into the wiper arm has the star

The bad news is the left insert is bad, and the right one is falling apart.
 (the
right one appears to be original to the blade, which probably isn't original
 to
 the car)

I know I can get refills at the dealer (140824032701 and 140824012701), but
 is
there anything under $10 a side that does the job as well?

 Mitch.

Several years ago I went through the more expensive name brand blades and found
them all short-lived. Then I tried Walmarts cheapest, as well as Trico, and
found both to last much longer. This Prius uses a 26 inch blade which does more
flexing, I suppose, so I wonder if the cheap blades will do as well there?

[MBZ] where to buy STAR DAS clone

2015-04-18 Thread Mitch Haley
I saw a recommendation for mbstarshop.com on one of the forums, is that as good
a place as any?

They sell three grades of C3 multiplexers, from $345 to $469 with cables and
hard drive, plus the 'super' one for $629. Any advice as to which one to buy?

Re: [MBZ] the club

2015-04-18 Thread Karl Wittnebel
I parked my 85 td on the street a mile from that safeway for about five
years. No notes, but someone did steal the hood ornament one time if that
counts.

There was always a dark blue 87 td on Benton i thought about leaving notes
on.

That condo is for sale if anyone is looking for a pied a terre.

Andrew, do you ever get people who come up and ask you about your TDs?

Your cars are kept up nicely. I'd think you would get comments and
 compliments.

I'd think there are enough MBCA members in the GW section that you would
bump into to some while you are out and about.

If not, I guess that is the difference with the DC kullture. (emphasis on
 Kull)
