[MBZ] Starter up?
1985 300TD 140-ish k mi. Well she runs! Took out the starter earlier this week, took a couple of days off, fixed the starter last night and installed between rain showers today. Installed battery, checked oil water etc, put oil in the filter housing and turned the key, half a turn and running smooth! Four years since last start. I am delighted, even start-led. (that one's for Joel.) The problem with the starter was weird. The solenoid was stuck with some kind of congealed goo. cleaned and polished everything and checked again. The solenoid armature was seemingly scored, until polished with some fine crocus paper, so I polished inside the coil, brass or brass-ish lined, and the fit was perfect. Reassembled and tested good. I am now officially knackered and off to supper and the british who-dunnit on PBS. Can I mention them? I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the myriad tips and tricks offered on this list. The various voices ran through my mind as The Job progressed and I am sure that had there not been all of that freely given advice I'd be missing a lot more skin. Thank you! Fred Moir. Lynn MA. Re: [MBZ] OT refrigerators
Here, a 20 lb. bag of ice cubes costs $2.00 ... on the desert, ice is king, so having plenty on hand is important. I solve that issue by simply buying as many 20 lb bags as will fit in the chest freezer. To make better use of the space, and the ice, I break down the 20 lb. bags into plastic grocery bags of ice cubes [about 5 lbs. each] simply tie the flaps to keep cubes contained and stuff them around the other items in the freezer. Need to ice down the cooler, bring out as much as needed, done deal. Replenish stock as necessary.. it is a win/win because the freezer, full of ice runs less often, than if it has empty space. Through the course of the summer "ice me" season, I may spend $100 total for ice.. which is less than the cost of an ice maker, a new fridge, or the cost of running a fridge to make ice.. Re: [MBZ] OT - Mitch & Liberty's Last Stand
Ironic, indeed. Still... as civilized as we claim to be, there must always be a balance of equal power between Citizens. When Citizens use government to hold power over other Citizens, throughout history, those Citizens have taken violent action against both government and those Citizens under the mantle of government forcing them to do something they don't want to do. This country's founding fathers understood that very well, having just cast off the absolute power of a King, violently. Thus the basis for 2nd Amendment, which has the meaning and intent to provide a means to ultimately push back, with deadly force, those who overstep their assigned and limited powers. Of everyone alive today, most qualify as "violence virgins". Only a small segment of the Citizens of USA have ever experienced being on the down range end of rifle fire, or violent actions. Most truly believe "it can't happen to me, not here"... and thus die surprised that it does. In this country, like in no other, we are given the responsibility to exercise one of TWO methods of keeping a government in balance. First is the VOTE.. this has worked over the past 240 years with some reliability, until recently, when there has arisen the professional politician, who much like King George, began acting like they had been granted absolute power over the Citizen. Concurrent with the professional politician, came the apathetic voter, who allowed his power to be taken from him by the politician under the color of government. Second is the Force of Arms: Over the past 240 years, this has been used once, in the War of Northern Aggression AKA "Civil War". During that event, more died, per capita, than in any other war. No family in America was untouched by the violence of Citizen against Citizen. The history of that event has been re-written to say it was all about slavery. It was not. A careful review of the events before the Civil War will show it was about Citizens using the color of government to force other Citizens to give up States Rights and self government, instead by using the force of government to remove those rights. Very parallel to what we are seeing in today's political environment. The takeaway I have from this is: Government has the responsibility to conduct it's self within the limits given. Citizens have the responsibility to conduct themselves within the limits of ordered and civil society. Both of those require a moral character for both the individuals, and those individuals who wear the mantle of government. Ironic, isn't it... The farther we get away from the rule that says "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." the closer we need to be to it. "Violence is always the course of last resort, until it becomes the first resort." Respectfully, Grant... The ice maker in our side by side 8 year old Kitchenaid has a lot of anger issues - hurls the ice so that half ends up on the floor. Otherwise, we like it. [MBZ] sun visors
My new 240D has the lighted vanity mirrors, both of which are broken. I have started looking for replacements and have noticed sellers selling just the vanity mirror section and not the whole visor. I have never really paid much attention to these before but can just the center part be replaced? How is it removed and held in? I have seen several advertised and fitting 123 and 126 etc. Is the mirror part the same? ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Yes! Rather ironic this gunman is squarely in the progressive camp, trying to effect change in government behavior, yet using a means that his side is trying to make illegal. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 On July 10, 2016 6:52:03 AM EDT, Karl Wittnebel via Mercedeswrote: >Conceptually it seems hard to distinguish this Dallas action, which was >horrific, from the sort of thing the second amendment was meant to >protect. >Once you accept that firearms are a legitimate way to settle grievances >with the government, it becomes a slippery slope. > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] OT - Mitch & Liberty's Last Stand
Conceptually it seems hard to distinguish this Dallas action, which was horrific, from the sort of thing the second amendment was meant to protect. Once you accept that firearms are a legitimate way to settle grievances with the government, it becomes a slippery slope. A second observation is that Facebook live streaming is going to change policing dramatically. The police need their own cameras, and they need better tools than guns to subdue people. Mike Vanderboegh is on his death bed. I'm surprised he lived to see Independence Day one more time. Here's what he looked like six weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAh-kecVoUE His unfinished book, "Absolved", might be wrapped up by his son Matt and brought to market by Christmas, but IIRC, Mike said he'd get it done himself by Christmas, back in 2009 or 2010, and it obviously didn't happen. Apparently the whole thing's been written for years, just needs editing for publication. In Chapter 28, he brings up the IRA's tactic of fighting fire with fire, literally. If the British set fire to an Irish Republican's home, the IRA would set fire to two British homes. http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/2009/11/absolved-chapter-28-nemesis-six.html I hope that what we saw in Dallas last night is not the beginning of something like that, cops shoot a couple of black guys, then blacks shoot ten cops... Mike meant Absolved to be a warning to all as to what another civil war would look like.
