[MBZ] I Dun Seed the Lite
Being both a lazy and obstinate fellow, I just now got the dash lights to work in Allen. I got her in Feb of ’17 and hardly drove at night, but by April I was out past or near dark, and could never get the dash to light up. I messed around with pulling the cluster and trying to make electrons go to bulbs and screwing about with the rheostat a few times. I really wanted the thing to work the way it came from the factory. Last time I pulled it was when I had installed the aftermarket radio and got tired of replacing fuse 13. Polei has LED cluster lights, I am not impressed, so would not do that with Allen. I did all manner of tests for continuity and if the bulbs even work. Or if the bread board was ok. It all came back as good, but for the dang rheostat. I decided summer was coming and I would not be out past dark anyway. Today, I got the itch and was either going to end up jumpering the rheostat or installing a chinee purple LED for dash light. I went with jumper, so as to be forced to use the LED as last resort. Tossing on the bit of wire around the posts was simple. I put it back together, put fuses 12 and 13 back, and fired it up. Radio and clock worked, so no big screw ups. Just needed to wait until dark to see if the very dim bulbs would work. Turns out they do. clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1986 SDL - Polei 1982 300 SD - Allen retired models- 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately & well tailored crap 1976 300D - Blei Vanst - it looks silvery 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Nice E320 Wagon
No diesel in S210 in USA, not in S124 after 1987, and I'm not sure if the later S211 had a diesel option here but definitely not through the early CDI years. To me, wagon = cargo capacity, so wagon + diesel = good, but MBUSA apparently doesn't agree, or wagons are so rare as to be not worth the effort of a diesel option (but they were worth the greater effort of converting to 4matic in 1998?). That doesn't sound right. On both my '87 and my '95, the Recirc button works in Auto, Economy. The system will draw in outside air at all times unless the Recirc button is pushed, and then it has a timer so after 45 minutes or so it starts drawing outside air again. - Max Charleston SC On Mon, Jul 24, 2017 at 10:50 AM, Larry Turner via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Yep, my 124 has a Recirc Button, the only way to introduce outside air to > to push the far right button which turns off the AC and turns the Outside > Air On. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] AC Question W124 91 300D re Evap Repl.
Yep, my 124 has a Recirc Button, the only way to introduce outside air to to push the far right button which turns off the AC and turns the Outside Air On. Then it's temp is controlled with the Temp roller. I know some have criticized the ACC but I have followed the OM advice and left it in the Auto Position so the ACC controls the on/off of everything and everything gets exercised. I had the 134a topped off and it's blowing cold again. I repaired it in 2014 so if I continue to get ~3 years or so out of a fill I'll be happy. Thanks Gang! Re: [MBZ] '84 300CD Headlights
I used the Hella sealed beam conversions from Amazon on my 1982 300D and was really pleased with them. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002M9QJM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8=1 They were $30/each and included the stock 55W lamp. Each took all of maybe 10 minutes to swap out. The beam pattern was much better. -D > On Jul 24, 2017, at 7:50 AM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes> wrote: > > > Do you like the styling of Euro lamps and are you willing to pay for them? > If so, Hella are OEM and somewhat expensive, TYC are Asian and said to be > pretty good. > > Do you like the current styling? > If so, all you need are a pair of 7" E-code lamps, here's one example: > https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002M9QJM > > You can also upgrade the fog lamps, I think they're 5 3/4". > > As for LED, some have decent beam patterns, most do not, anything price > competitive with the Hellas I linked above is pretty much guaranteed to be > horrible. In addition to the earlier comments, you may also want to upgrade the wiring to the lights with a relay kit, either of you own construction, or from Daniel Stern. Re: [MBZ] '84 300CD Headlights
Do you like the styling of Euro lamps and are you willing to pay for them? If so, Hella are OEM and somewhat expensive, TYC are Asian and said to be pretty good. Do you like the current styling? If so, all you need are a pair of 7" E-code lamps, here's one example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002M9QJM You can also upgrade the fog lamps, I think they're 5 3/4". As for LED, some have decent beam patterns, most do not, anything price competitive with the Hellas I linked above is pretty much guaranteed to be horrible. Don't buy LEDs without a specific product recommendation from somebody who knows what he's talking about (not me). LED bulbs in lamps designed for normal bulbs won't work, it has to be designed as a LED lamp assembly and it has to be done right. Re: [MBZ] '84 300CD Headlights
Ralph, These are the ones to get: https://www.amazon.com/Cibie-082440-82440-Light-Unit/dp/B008DQV88Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8=1500896853=8-1=cibie+082440 They look very much like the original lights, fit the car without modification, plug directly into the factory wiring harness, and use standard H4 bulbs. Oh, and they're really outstanding lights. Installing them is as easy as changing a sealed beam. But you should adjust the light alignment after installation to ensure proper aiming.
