Does that vehicle come with it's own life insurance policy, and is the new owner given a burial plot as part of the purchase price? Flying, which seems so simple, is not. Know that feeling you get in rush hour, surrounded by drivers who should not be driving? Multiply that by an exponential factor when you add 3 dimensional vectors of flight. Just buried a friend last week, an experienced pilot, who died from an accelerated stall in a glider, at 400 ft altitude. Took the first res ponders 3 hrs to "un-bury" him along with the wreckage. I don't see a zero flight time buyer surviving what such a proposed aircraft could present in flight challenges.. My 0.01 cents worth... Re: [MBZ] 1986 300E Ignition Resistor?
Cuts out and backfires could easily be an over-rich condition, too. Or bad plug wires. Or a leaking airflow sensor to throttle body leak. Your symptoms tell me that the system cannot manage the fuel mixture when it comes out of cold running open loop mode. When it goes into feedback loop mode, the mixture goes way over rich or way over lean and the engine dies. I've fished around on these systems for a long time (since 1980), they have to be vacuum leak free, the charcoal cartridge for the vapor recovery system has to be in good shape, the fuel pumps have to be right with a good fuel filter, and the airflow meter must be clean and moving properly. You must also have a good fuel distributor plunger seal (or fuel drips into the intake) and good injectors. Great system when it works, but it can take a while to get it right when it acts up. I would do the following: Check for intact fuel injector seals, both on the injector and on the plastic insert they sit in. Check for leaking or split idle control valve hoses. Check for leaks on the boot between the fuel distributor/air meter and the throttle body, they shrink and crack with age. Verify a clear exhaust. Check the oxygen sensor (a prime suspect, actually, since it acts like it's going out of control in closed loop mode). Check the connector for the oxygen sensor under the right front carpet -- a spilled soda or a window left open can cause liquid to collect on the plug and corrode it. It's under the secondary padding. Check fuel pressures -- if the mechanic doesn't know what you are talking about, you need a different mechanic, he's just fishing in the dark. Base pressure, upper and lower chamber pressures, differential drop across the fuel distributor. Check the electrohydraulic regulator on the rear of the fuel distributor, they leak when they are bad. Will also not control differential pressure properly. Make sure it's plugged in Mine stalled and backfired while trying to start it when I had a bad fuel pump -- on the TE they are in series so one bad makes it refuse to run.. Sedans are in parallel. Check for a clogged or smashed fuel line -- will show up as low fuel pressure. Make sure the charcoal canister vent is not clogged -- it's the right size for a mud dauber to build a nest in. Will result in serious suction on the tank as there will be no air vent. Also verify that the canister is not fuel soaked, as it is cleared when the engine warms up. Sucking liquid gasoline down the intake from a flooded canister will stall it. Re: [MBZ] 1986 300E Ignition Resistor?
Is your mechanic familiar with KE-Jet injection? It's mechanical, not electronic except for mixture control feedback. A failing electro-hydraulic regulator could do the same thing by leaking when warm. A sticking idle control valve will cause stalling when coasting to a stop. Lots of possibilities. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] OT - noise cancellation
So this is a true story. Back in 1968 when I was 14 I was visiting my aunt and uncle. My uncle had quite a collection of Playboys stashed in a closet. While they were at work I amused (!!) myself “reading” the magazines. I was actually reading something about hi-go stereo headphones, which I guess were kinda new at that time, and the article had something in it about how well they would block out the noise so you could hear the music. Somehow or other this stimulated some thinking about noise and headphones and such, and I reasoned that since sound is waves, there must be some way to make anti-waves, thereby canceling the sound wave to make quiet. I had no idea how to go this, maybe some kind of circuit and a microphone that could listen the make the anti-wave in a headphone. I pondered this for some time. My uncle was somewhat smart about stuff so when he got home I proposed this idea. He thought it was pretty good but had no idea either. My dad was an electronics engineer, my uncle (dad’s brother) told me I should talk to him about it. So a few days later I got home and said something about it, he thought it was interesting but didn’t have a lot more to say about it. Interjection: my dad had proposed at some point along about then an idea to build a handheld electronic calculator, and had sketched out the idea with some colleagues but it never went anywhere, technical issues or something. Some few years later a coupla those guys ended up at Bowmar, a small electronics outfit in town, and from there came the Bowmar Brain which was essentially this device. I have thought about this noise canceling idea over the years, even mentioned it to a few people along the way, nothing ever came of it from me, now these things are ubiquitous. Oh well... --R Sent from iPhone > On Jul 12, 2018, at 3:19 PM, Larry Turner via Mercedes > wrote: > > I wonder if that's somehow related to the noise canceling system developed by > Bose a few years back? As far as this specific car it looks like it's in pretty good condition, lots of photos to look at - just based on that I'd put it in my definitely look at box. Re: [MBZ] OT: Blackfly
It's intriguing all right, but I'm reserving judgement since it could be a hoax. I base that on the near vertical flight. It would be interesting to know the weight of the plane and the power of the eight engines. Of course he could have "made a run for it" so that inertia was added to the vertical flight which might not have been that far vertically. We'll see. Re: [MBZ] 2005 E320 CDI (Larry Turner)
Awesome!! I have converted my wife into a dizzel fan and she wants to fix our 91 300 or find another. After driving the 300D for years her driving style has morphed into a "all the time, foot on the floor, driving" and now when she's driving our 06 Ferd Explorer it's the same way - foot on the floor till the speed limit is reached. She has come around. ;-) LarryT On 07/10/2018 10:13 PM, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes wrote: I took my buddy (old school car guy, transplanting Porch engines into bee dubs to pay for kawledge) out yesterday in the 99 $500E300 dizzel and he was much impressed with the torques and overall performance. It has more torque ( and acceleration) than V-8 cars I've previously driven. And that is while getting 35 mpg in town and up to 40 mpg on highway. The pictures of the car you are considering show that car was particularly well cared for because it has all the covers and shields around the engine compartment. I had a hard time finding one that still had all that stuff. I don't know how functionally important those things are, but they indicate to me a level of care and attention to detail someone was giving to its maintenance. I've had no problems with the SBC (brake by wire). And I think I saw somewhere that prices for after market and/or dealer parts for SBC has come down a lot since warranties expired. So I'm not too worried about any eventual repairs SBC may need. I would definitely look that car over. I would want more money than that to sell mine. Re: [MBZ] 2005 E320 CDI
Thanks Clay, I agree completely about the build quality going downhill. And your other comments are spot on as well. I bought a 06 E350 that was great when we bought it with 153K mi and within a month the CEL was on and it refused to start. My indy wanted 1300 to R&R the fuel pump and I refuse to pay that with the CEL still an issue. So I have a large paper weight in my driveway. But the MBUSA 15 yr warranty might get it back on the road - we'll see if they cover the pump.\ re the pre W140 cars - that's the reason I am not giving up on my 91 300D. If I can find a used bearing hub I can fix the R whl bearing problem pretty easily. But we'll see...
