Re: [MBZ] OT - TV
There is a way to filter reviews on Amazon to show only the pertinent ones. Greg -Original Message- From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Dan Penoff via Mercedes Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2019 7:17 PM To: Okie Benz Cc: Dan Penoff Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT - TV This is what I dislike about Amazon and their “reviews” for items that have multiple instances. That is, there are 3-4 different models of this receiver in the product line, and they lump all of the reviews for all of the different models into one “bucket”. You’re reading reviews about the higher end models that have firmware that can be uploaded into them for product enhancements. The one I got doesn’t have that capability. My current AV receiver is a predecessor to the Yamaha model you mentioned. It’s been great and has worked flawlessly for 6-7 years. Re: [MBZ] OT: TV
Uh, Amazon Prime video has been available on Apple TV since 2017. You have to have a later Apple TV (4) that can install apps to get it, however. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2017/12/amazon-prime-video-arrives-on-apple-tv-in-over-100-countries/ I am replacing an LG 60” plasma TV that was acting weird starting a month or two ago. In a section about 2/3 up from the bottom of the screen, primarily in the center, but generally in a rectangular area, it would “bloom” in light colors or whites and look pixellated just in that part of the screen. If you have any idea what might be causing this, I’m all ears, as this TV will be going in a guest room for now. We went with a plasma at the time because the viewing angle of the LED TVs of that vintage were pretty lousy, and the TV is in a room that’s long and somewhat narrow, with seating on all sides of the room except that of the TV. I forgot how much of a beast the thing is until my oldest son and I took it off the wall. Oy! I would love an OLED TV, but as you mentioned, they’re still far too expensive for what I’m willing to spend. -D > On Jan 27, 2019, at 12:26 PM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes > wrote: > > We've been a plasma household since 2010, and are ecstatic with the > functionality and picture quality of our three (now) Panasonics. It’s hardly at that level, believe me. I do my best to accommodate when possible, as most requests are pretty realistic and have good reasoning behind them. I did look at these when I was faucet shopping, but when I saw the prices I pretty well dismissed them out of hand, as I couldn’t see the value in spending $100-$200 more for something I consider a gimmick. My thoughts aside, the fiscal aspect of the functionality didn’t make a lot of sense. I have been looking at the reviews for a number of these and I see a reasonably high level of complaints about failures and reliability. I shall play that card and hopefully that will be the end. -D > On Jan 27, 2019, at 11:55 AM, G Mann via Mercedes > wrote: > > Put a really good divorce attorney on retainer, and then firmly say "No" we > don't want or need that added device which has a known high failure rate, > and will cost more to repair than the Moen I just installed. > "But I still love you dear" [sometimes works, YMMV] > > On Sun, Jan 27, 2019 at 9:50 AM Jim Cathey via Mercedes < > mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > >>> Anyone here have direct experience with any of the “touch” faucets, and >> if so, what did you get? >> >> No. But I have had experience with more than one touch lamp that spazzed >> out and wouldn't work right. >> That's the last thing I want, a faucet that can spontaneously decide to go >> full on by itself, even if no one >> is there. Until the sensor fails and the water runs all weekend... We have touchless faucets at work, they fail pretty regularly and either won't come on or wont shut off. I'm also not impressed with the pull out sprayer ones they've got in the kitchen areas at work, the sprayer head won't stay in place so the faucet is always droopy. [MBZ] OT - "Touch" Kitchen Faucets
Pull-out Kohler faucet at the kitchen sink was starting to leak, so after replacing some O rings only to have it start leaking again a few weeks later, I tossed in the towel and bought a new Moen pull-out single handle faucet to replace it. With discounts and other spiffs I think I paid around $180-$200 for it. Got it installed, all is well. Until of course, SWMBO walks out and says, “But I wanted one of those faucets that you can touch to turn on and off.” Yeah. I pointed out that those types of faucets, at least quality ones, are easily $400 and up and I wasn’t about to drop $400-$500 for a kitchen faucet. And that I had mentioned on several occasions I was going to replace the faucet as it was leaking, and nothing was said at that time. I can see that in the long term I’m probably going to lose this battle, meaning I’ll end up dropping the cost of the Moen plus another new faucet. Sigh.
